Jorge Julio, P Thursday 12/4, 3:46 PM CT
Jorge Julio has inked a one-year deal with the Brewers, according to the Sports Network.

Our View: He held a poor 1.53 WHIP over 30 innings of relief in 2008 with Cleveland and Atlanta, but should be fine for the back of the Brewers' pen.
CC Sabathia, P Thursday 12/4, 7:12 AM CT
The Angels are drawing their attention away from CC Sabathia and are once again focusing on first baseman Mark Teixeira, according to the NY Post.

Our View: There was previously speculation that the Angels really weren't interested in Sabathia, and were attempting to speed negotiations up with Teixeira, who is represented by slow-moving agent Scott Boras.
CC Sabathia, P Wednesday 12/3, 6:03 PM CT
CC Sabathia could still be signed by the Giants, according to ESPN.

Our View: The Giants do fit Sabathia's wish to play in California and the National League, and they certainly don't have any reservations about silly contracts for pitchers as we saw a few years ago with the Barry Zito deal.
Ben Sheets, P Wednesday 12/3, 5:13 PM CT
Ben Sheets is likely to decline the Brewers' offer for arbitration, according to Fox Sports.

Our View: Sheets is looking for a multi-year deal, but his injury history will make teams reluctant to commit to him. The Brewers had to offer him arbitration in order to receive two draft picks as compensation.
J.J. Hardy, SS Wednesday 12/3, 4:44 PM CT
The Giants are interested J.J. Hardy as an option at third base, but it appears that the Brewers don't really want to move him, according to Sports Illustrated.

Our View: Hardy would be more productive than Rich Aurilia at third base for the Giants, so we can see his appeal for them, but it doesn't look like this deal will transpire.
Derrick Turnbow, P Wednesday 12/3, 11:09 AM CT
The Pittsburgh Pirates are talking with free agent reliever Derrick Turnbow about joining them, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Turnbow was so horrid last year that the Brewers sent he and his $2.5 million salary to the minor leagues. Once there, he encountered shoulder woes that ended his season in July.
Prince Fielder, 1B Tuesday 12/2, 10:54 PM CT
The Brewers are thought to be open to the idea of trading Prince Fielder to add pitching depth to the starting rotation or to land an established closer, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Even though the Brewers say they would trade Fielder, it would have to be the perfect deal for them to trade the power-hitting first baseman.
Ben Sheets, P Tuesday 12/2, 2:09 PM CT
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution believes Ben Sheets is not on the Braves' radar due to concerns about his durability and reliability. They aren't interested in Randy Johnson for the same reasons.

Our View: The Braves' top pitching target is currently believed to be AJ Burnett. As for Sheets, the Brewers offered him salary arbitration.
Scott Thorman, 1B Monday 12/1, 8:26 PM CT
The Brewers signed fist baseman Scott Thorman to a Minor League contract on Monday, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Thorman spent all of 2008 with the Braves organization. He played for Triple-A Richmond, where he hit .251 there with 29 home runs and 56 RBI.
Ben Sheets, P Monday 12/1, 3:22 PM CT
Ben Sheets has been offered salary arbitration by the Brewers, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Sheets is a Type-A free agent, and Milwaukee would receive two draft picks if he inks with another MLB team. Sheets is not a hot target right now due to his track record with durability, but should garner interest when the other free agent pitchers start to sign.
Eric Gagne, P Monday 12/1, 10:33 AM CT
The Brewers are not expected to offer Type-B free agent Eric Gagne salary arbitration, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Our View: The Brewers would not want to get stuck with him if he accepted an arbitration offer, as he was a disappointment in 2008 with a 1.47 WHIP. It was previously reported that Gagne is on the Rangers' radar.
CC Sabathia, P Monday 12/1, 10:29 AM CT
CC Sabathia will be offered salary arbitration by the Brewers, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Our View: This is expected, as the Brewers would like to re-sign the Type-A free agent, and wouldn't want to get nothing back in return (draft pick compensation) if he signs with another team.
