Oliver Perez, P Thursday 12/4, 12:45 PM CT
The Yankees are interested in Oliver Perez, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Our View: The Yankees could view Perez as a replacement for Andy Pettitte. Perez has struggled with control issues, but there is no denying he has good "stuff." He registered 180 strikeouts over 194 innings with the Mets in 2008, and he wouldn't have far to travel if he landed with the Yankees.
Nelson Figueroa, P Thursday 12/4, 7:50 AM CT
Nelson Figueroa inked a minor league deal with the Mets, according to the NY Post. The club also signed left-hander Adam Bostick, infielder Andy Green and catcher Rene Rivera to minor league deals.

Our View: The local kid (from Brooklyn) held a 3-3 mark with a 4.57 ERA over 45.1 innings with the Mets in 2008, making six starts. All of the mentioned players will be invited to spring training, and will be protected from the Rule 5 draft.
Fernando Martinez, OF Thursday 12/4, 7:38 AM CT
Fernando Martinez is not on the Mets' trading table, according to the NY Post.

Our View: The Mets have laughed off a rumor that top prospect Martinez was being discussed as a trading chip to acquire Jermaine Dye and Bobby Jenks from Chicago.
Oliver Perez, P Wednesday 12/3, 2:10 PM CT
The St. Louis Cardinals may be interested in left-handed pitcher Oliver Perez, according to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com.

Our View: The Cardinals could certainly use another hurler, and a left-handed one at that. He posted solid numbers last season, but pitching coach Dave Duncan has been known to work wonders with inconsistent hurlers, so fantasy owners would have to be intrigued at the possibility.
Nick Evans, LF Tuesday 12/2, 8:24 AM CT
Nick Evans sustained a mild quadriceps strain of his right knee while playing for Indios de Mayaguez in the Puerto Rican Winter League, according to the NY Post.

Our View: The Mets' outfield prospect last played November 19 and is slated for 3-4 weeks of therapy in his hometown of Phoenix.
Rene Rivera, C Monday 12/1, 12:15 PM CT
Rene Rivera has signed a minor league deal with the Mets, according to the Sports Network.

Our View: He will be invited to spring training. He last appeared with the Mariners in 2006, when he hit an anemic .152 over 99 at-bats.
Jonathon Niese, P Monday 12/1, 11:21 AM CT
The Mets would like to add one quality starter and push Jonathon Niese into the No. 5 spot in the rotation, according to the NY Post.

Our View: Niese held a poor 2.00 WHIP over 14 innings with the Mets last season, but has potential to develop into a solid back-of-the-rotation starter for the club, and could be worth watching for deeper fantasy leagues in 2009.
Oliver Perez, P Monday 12/1, 8:47 AM CT
The Mets are expected to offer free agent Oliver Perez salary arbitration, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View: If Perez accepts, the Mets retain the lefthander in the rotation for another campaign, but for more than the $6.5 million he made in 2008. If he doesn't, the Mets could get a first and second-round draft selection plus a sandwich pick as compensation for losing a Type-A free agent. Perez is looking for a big payday, and will likely decline their offer.
Aaron Heilman, P Monday 12/1, 7:54 AM CT
The Rangers garnered interest in Mets' pitcher Aaron Heilman, according to Newsday.

Our View: This could have happened at the same time the Mets inquired about Rangers' catcher Gerald Laird, and a deal would make sense as the Mets would like to upgrade at catcher and the Rangers need pitching help.
