The Athletics signed relief pitcher Kevin Cameron to a minor league contract Monday, according to the AP.

Our View: Cameron appeared in 10 games for the Padres 2008 and pitched in only 10 innings.

Frank Thomas won't be offered salary arbitration by Oakland, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: The club doesn't want to get stuck with the Type-B free agent if he accepts the arbitration offer. He only hit .240 with eight homers over 71 games in 2008.

Alan Embree, P

The Athletics are likely to offer Class-B free agent Alan Embree salary arbitration, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: The club has some interest in bringing him back, so there is less risk if he decides to accept the arbitration offer. If he signs with another MLB team, Oakland would acquire a draft pick. Embree is on the Rockies' list of targets among lefty relievers.
