Trevor Hoffman, P Thursday 12/4, 9:30 AM CT
The Dodgers are doing research on Trevor Hoffman, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com.

Our View: The all-time saves leader would be a strong one-year stopgap for the Dodgers, while mentoring Jon Broxton.
Khalil Greene, SS Thursday 12/4, 7:16 AM CT
ESPN confirms that Khalil Greene will be dealt to St. Louis.

Our View: The players involved in the deal are yet to be revealed, but the Padres are likely to get pitching help (right-handed reliever) in exchange for Greene, as well as dump his $6.5 million salary. Greene should benefit from a fresh start with the Cardinals, namely in the power department.
Khalil Greene, SS Wednesday 12/3, 11:42 PM CT
Khalil Greene apparently is headed to St. Louis in exchange for two relief prospects, according to the New York Post.

Our View: It is still unclear if the Padres will have to eat any of Greene's $6.5 million salary for 2009 or who the pitchers are that the Cardinals would part with.
Khalil Greene, SS Wednesday 12/3, 9:17 PM CT
It is believed that Khalil Greene will be traded prior to the start of the winter meetings on Monday, according to the New York Post. His destination is unknown, but it is rumored that he could be heading to Baltimore or St. Louis.

Our View: The Padres want to clear Greene's salary of $6.5 million for 2009 after he struggled with a .213 average and just 35 RBI in 105 games in 2008.
Trevor Hoffman, P Wednesday 12/3, 3:41 PM CT
The New York Mets have discussed meeting with Trevor Hoffman, as the club has shown interest in signing him, according to the New York Post.

Our View: Clearly, the Mets have a big need for a closer, and Hoffman would be less expensive and come with fewer years than supposed targets Francisco Rodriguez and Brian Fuentes.
Khalil Greene, SS Wednesday 12/3, 11:13 AM CT
Despite their need for a shortstop, the Detroit Tigers are not interested in acquiring San Diego's Khalil Greene, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Our View: The Padres want to move Greene and his $6.5 million salary this year, and rightfully so. We're somewhat fascinated with the interest in Greene around baseball, as his best season was his rookie year in 2004 when he hit .273 with a .349 OBP. Since then, however, he's played in more than 121 games and had more than 440 at-bats just once, and has had an OBP over .300 just one time as well. He hit 27 home runs in 2007, but that was the only time he hit more than 15. In 389 at-bats last year, his OPS was an embarrassing .599.
Chase Headley, LF Tuesday 12/2, 10:52 AM CT
GM Kevin Towers commented that Chase Headley could roam third base at the start of next season if Kevin Kouzmanoff isn't ready following shoulder surgery, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View: That would move Scott Hairston to left field as well, but Kouzmanoff is expected to be good to go for the start of spring training, and Towers mentioned the scenario as a backup plan in case he suffers a setback.
Jake Peavy, P Monday 12/1, 11:33 AM CT
The Cubs remain in the hunt to land Padres' ace hurler Jake Peavy, according to MLBTradeRumors.com. Padres' GM Kevin Towers said, "I would say the Cubs are still in it. Lou Piniella said they’re not in it, but their general manager (Jim Hendry) says they’re in it. The Dodgers have bigger fish to fry. That’s not to say they might not circle back later in the winter. Our primary goal is to trade Peavy."

Our View: The Cubs hope to hold onto Mike Fontenot and Sean Marshall, which is part of the reason they are looking for a third team to involve in a trade for Peavy. A Cubs' source noted a two-year window for the club to win a title, and acquiring Peavy would be a major step in the right direction to achieve that goal.
