The Washington Wizards managed to save victory from the jaws of defeat this evening as Cleveland forward LeBron James watched his lane-driving finger roll rim out as the final seconds wound off the clock, giving the Wiz an 88-87 victory. The Wiz were led by forward Caron Butler , enjoying a magnificent evening in his best playoff performance to date. Butler shot 11-of-22 from the field, 4-of-8 from the three-point line, and 6-of-7 from the charity stripe to score 32 points, adding nine rebounds and five assists to the effort.

Our View:Butler has struggled in this series as tonight's performance is his first in the series with 20+ points. Tonight's win gives the Wiz hope, though the 3-2 series deficit will be challenging to overcome.
April 21, 2008
Caron Butler was only 4-for-13 for 12 points in 23 minutes of action in Game 2. Antawn Jamison also was 4-for-13 on the night.

Our View:Neither of these two was able to get going, but at least Caron contributed seven boards and five assists on the night, though it was clear that the Wizards were outclassed on this night.
April 19, 2008
With Gilbert Arenas struggling for health throughout the season, the Washington Wizards had come to look at SF Caron Butler as their team leader. Today, Butler failed to fulfill those obligations, shooting just 5-of-10 from the field, 0-of-3 from the three-point line, and 4-of-5 from the free-throw line to finish with 14 points. Butler also added just four rebounds, four assists, and three steals in the devastating 86-93 loss.

Our View:A slight improvement from Butler would have brought a valuable road win for the Wiz, and we know Butler has much more to give. Look for improved returns (and different results) as we move forward.
April 18, 2008
Caron Butler is suffering from numerous physical issues including a bruised right knee, but he fully expects to give the Cavaliers all they can handle in Round 1, this according to ESPN.

Our View:Butler scored over 20 points a game on the year with 6.7 boards and 4.9 assists, and he and a healthy Gilbert Arenas could give the Cavs fits, that is if Arenas and Butler are healthy.
April 18, 2008
Caron Butler was able to practice on Thursday as the Wizards prepared for their first-round series against Cleveland. Butler missed the teams final three games of the season with a bruised right knee.

April 14, 2008

Our View:The Wiz expect Butler to be available for the playoffs, and they don't need to rush him back for the final two regular tilts.
April 14, 2008
Caron Butler did not participate in the Monday morning shootaround and could miss the game against the Pacers due to a sore right knee, the Washington Post notes. He is day-to-day.

Our View:Fantasy owners should not count on Butler to play, as the Wizards are pretty much counting on finishing at the No. 5 seed and need him healthy for the playoffs.
April 14, 2008
Caron Butler is listed as day-to-day due to his knee bruise, according to the Washington Post. He has missed 22 games this season due to various ailments and Coach Jordan stated, "There's nothing structural wrong, there's no real swelling and it's just sore." He averaged 20.3 points per contest this season.

Our View:Darius Songaila would likely replace him in the lineup if he ultimately cannot go.
April 12, 2008
Caron Butler will be on the sidelines on Saturday night because of an injured right knee, this according to the AP.

Our View:Butler has been in and out of the lineup in the second half of the year, and given that he was able to score only six points in his last game, it was obvious that he needed to shut her down for a while.

Jamison went 6-of-17 from the field and a troubling 0-of-5 from three-point land, finishing with 17 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, four steals, and two blocks. Caron Butler had his best game since returning to the lineup from an injured hip as he scored 25 points and handed out six assists for the Wizards. Butler was 9-for-12 from the field, including 3 of 6 on three's, as he managed to be mighty productive despite being selective with his shot. The Wizards will continue to lean on Butler, and as long as his body holds up he should be good for 20 points a night.
March 14, 2008

March 12, 2008
Caron Butler is expected to return to the lineup Thursday after missing 16 straight games and 19 of the last 21 because of a hip injury, according to the AP. "Caron is going to be probable, so we add a little 'Tough Juice' to the lineup," said coach Eddie Jordan. "And we'll see how it goes." The Wiz could limit Butler's minutes a bit, but that doesn't mean you don't need to stick him back in your lineup right away.

Over their last 13 games the Wizards are just 5-8, so they obviously need Butler back desperately, Even if he returns to practice next week, there is no guarantee that he will be back in game action anytime soon.
March 4, 2008
Caron Butler didn't practice Tuesday and a timetable for his return is still up in the air. He will be re-evaluated at some point this week, according to the Washington Post. Butler is hoping that a slight tear in left labrum of his hip will heal without surgery. The Post notes that a couple Wizards players have said Butler is feeling better and is optimistic about coming back in the near future. Cross your fingers, Butler owners, but try not to get your hopes up too high.
February 28, 2008
It turns out that Caron Butler is more injured than the media was led to believe as it was revealed on Thursday that he has a labrum tear in his left hip, this according to the AP. The report also went on to state that surgery might be necessary. The bottom line here is that you just can't count on anything from Butler the rest of the way. Put him on your bench, or better yet the IR, and hope that he won't require surgery.
February 25, 2008

February 20, 2008
Caron Butler was limited to light shooting at Wednesday's practice. He expects to practice Thursday and will be a game-time decision for Friday's contest at Cleveland, according to the Washington Post. "I need to feel good at practice, you know, pain free," Butler said. "I'm not going to go through a situation where I step back on the court and the same thing occurs again what it did in Philly. I want to come back 100 percent so we can make a push at this thing." The smart money would probably be on Butler not playing until next week, but check back for updates.
February 20, 2008
Caron Butler missed his sixth consecutive game on Tuesday night after suffering a setback to his injured left hip flexor. Butler experienced some pain during the team's Tuesday morning shootaround, according to the Chicago Tribune. February 19, 2008
Former KC Star columnist Ivan Carter, now covering the NBA for the Washington Post, suggests that Caron Butler is out for tonight's game against the Knicks. Carter said that Butler went through the morning shootaround but is still not right. The Wiz's next game is Friday night at Cleveland which would offer Butler some additional recovery time. If Butler doesn't dress, Andray Blatche will get the start.

"I'm feeling better, but it's still not at the point where I can go out there and play with confidence that I'm not going to hurt it again and have it turn into a long-term problem," Butler said. "I'm looking at it like, if I can take this week and rest it and work on it with one of the [athletic] trainers, I'll be good to go when we come back."

Butler is averaging a career best 21.4 points per game while making 91.3% of his free throws and 47.6% of his shots from the field. Washington Post
February 9, 2008
Caron Butler missed another game on Friday due to his ailing hip flexor. He remains day-to-day, though he'll be examined further on Saturday, according to the Washington Post. The club is holding out hope that he'll return to action before the All-Star break, but they may be cautious and hold him out.
February 8, 2008
Caron Butler is listed as being day-to-day, but it's highly unlikely that he will take part in Friday's game because he was in severe discomfort after exiting Tuesday's contest, according to the Washington Post. He's battling a strained hip flexor and, realistically, won't play until after the All-Star break.
February 6, 2008
Wizards forward Caron Butler didn't play Wednesday's game against the Spurs with a strained hip flexor, according to the AP. Butler, who left Tuesday's game in Philadelphia after his hip began hurting, was playing just his second game after missing three with the same injury. "Caron is going to be out. He's going to be day-to-day after that," Wizards coach Eddie Jordan said. "There's no real damage there. It's just sore."
February 5, 2008
Caron Butler failed to complete Tuesday's game after aggravating his strained left hip flexor muscle. He hit just three of his nine shot attempts before leaving and finished with eight points, though he dished out nine dimes. You'll want to wait for official word from the Wiz before pulling him out of your lineups, but since this is the same injury that recently cost him three games, there's a very good chance he'll be shut down until after the All-Star break.
February 3, 2008
Caron Butler was able to return to action on Sunday to face his old Lakers squad. He played nearly 39 minutes and scored 15 points, though he was just 5-of-15 from the field and clearly didn't look close to full speed. He's been battling a strained hip flexor and should be set for the next game, so long as the muscle reacts well to Sunday's workout.
February 3, 2008
Caron Butler didn't take part in Saturday's practice and was not sure if his strained left hip flexor would loosen up in time to play on Sunday, according to the Washington Post. "It feels a lot better than it did [Friday] so that's a good thing," Butler said. "I was able to go out there and do some shooting, move around a little bit and test it so now it's just a matter of seeing how it feels in the morning." The All-Star has plenty of motivation to lace up Sunday, as the Wiz face his former Lakers team, but you can expect him to think long term about his health and not risk turning this into a problem that will bother him the rest of the season.
February 1, 2008
Caron Butler only did some light shooting in this morning's shootaround, and his status for this evening's game remains uncertain, according to the Washington Post. Butler told the Post's Ivan Carter last night that his hip was better but still tight, though Carter felt Butler was concerned about the issue becoming a lingering problem if he pushed it too hard. On top of the hip that's already cost him two games, Butler had a stomach virus that required an IV a few days ago. Sounds like the odds aren't great for Butler Friday night, but he may still give it a try.
February 1, 2008
The availability of Caron Butler for Friday's game won't be determined until he's re-evaluated earlier in the day, according to the Washington Post.
