November 17, 2008
Amare Stoudemire had his second big game in a row on Monday following a couple sub-par performances last week. He finished with 30 points and eight rebounds as the Suns fell 97-109 in Utah.

Our View:Stoudemire's inconsistancy is not what was expected when most leagues saw him go fourth off of the board in fantasy drafts. Still, his overall averages, especially his percentages, keep him at the top of the heap.
November 16, 2008
Suns big man Amare Stoudemire tallied 29 points while pulling down 11 rebounds in the Suns' 104-86 blowout of Detroit.

Our View:Amare was averaging just 8.1 rebounds per game before this contest, so it was nice to see him a little more active in that aspect of the game.
November 13, 2008
Amare Stoudemire scored just 11 points in 36 minutes as the Suns lost at home to the Rockets on Wednesday. He shot just 5-of-13 and pulled down nine rebounds in the loss.

Our View:Amare has produced below expectations in the games that teammate Shaquille O'Neal has excelled.
November 10, 2008
Amare Stoudemire scored 18 points, grabbed six rebounds, and blocked two shots in the Suns 107-102 win over Memphis on Monday.

Our View:It was a bit of an off-night for S.T.A.T., but his contributions were still positive. He was named NBA Western Conference Player of the Week earlier in the day.
November 10, 2008
Amare Stoudemire has been named the NBA Western Conference Player of the Week, according to the East Valley Tribune. He earned the honor by averaging 28.3 points, seven boards, three assists, 1.8 steals and 1.5 blocks as the Suns defeated the Nets, Pacers and Bucks while losing to the Bulls.

Our View:His best effort over the span came on November 5, when he generated 49 points against the Pacers. This marks the sixth weekly honor for Stoudemire.
November 8, 2008
Amare Stoudemire was just 3-for-8 from the field against the Bucks on Saturday, but he finished with 24 points thanks to 20 trips to the free throw line. He only grabbed five rebounds in 42 minutes of action.

Our View:Shaquille O'Neal's return to the lineup clearly effected Stoudemire's role. Shaq took twice as many shots and grabbed twice as many boards after taking Friday off. Expect big night's from Amare when Shaq is out, but merely good ones when O'Neal's in the lineup.
November 5, 2008
Amare Stoudemire absolutely destroyed the Pacers on Wednesday to the tune of 49 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, five steals and two blocks. He shot an incredible 17-for-21 from the field and 15-for-15 from the line as the Suns beat the Pacers 113-103.

Our View:With Shaquille O'Neal playing just 12 minutes and Matt Barnes missing the game due to personal reasons, Amare took over and the Pacers had no answer for him. Performances like this can be expected from the consensus fourth overall pick in fantasy drafts.
November 2, 2008
Amare Stoudemire notched a game-high 23 points and 13 boards in Saturday's 107-96 win over Portland, with two assists and a steal.

Our View:Stoudemire was slowed by injuries in the preseason, but is seemingly fine now, as he recorded a double-double in back-to-back games.
October 29, 2008
Amare Stoudemire scored 11 points in the fourth quarter on 5-for-5 shooting to help lead the Suns over the Spurs 103-98 on Wednesday. He finished with 22 points, eight rebounds and a block on 8-for-11 shooting.

Our View:Stoudemire turned it on when he needed to on Wednesday. He was widely selected fourth overall in drafts so better production will be expected of him moving forward.
October 22, 2008
Amare Stoudemire has returned to preseason exhibitions and on Tuesday he came off the bench for 30 minutes of action. He finished with 21 points and seven rebounds as the Suns defeated the Clippers.

Our View:Stoudemire appears ready to go after injuring his eye early on in training camp. His ability to shoot an extremely high percentage, score, rebound and block shots has many regarding him as a Top 4 selection in fantasy drafts.
October 9, 2008
Big man Amare Stoudemire was able to handle all facets of his workout on Wednesday, and he has no issues with his new goggles, the East Valley Tribune reports. Stoudemire will participate in a full-contact practice on Monday. He has a torn iris in his right eye.

Our View:We're hoping the Suns found some old Kareem-like specs for the stud big man. Amare should be fine in the long run and is a safe first-round fantasy pick.
October 7, 2008
The Arizona Republic reports that in a Monday follow-up exam in Tucson, Amare Stoudemire's torn iris showed some irritation, and his return to workouts is now slated for Wednesday. He likely will miss at least the first four preseason games.

Our View:Stoudemire has said that he will play the remainder of his career with goggles to prevent this type of injury from ever occurring again. He is still a very good first round selection in fantasy leagues.
October 5, 2008
Amare Stoudemire said the pain in his injured right eye has subsided and that he hopes to resume workouts on Tuesday, according to The Arizona Republic. "The biggest challenge for him is going to be his cardio, not having done much in two to three weeks," coach Terry Porter said after Amare has also missed time of late with a sprained ankle.

Our View:Stoudamire is still a first round pick no matter what recent setbacks he has faced, and both of the injuries that he is currently dealing with will likely be out of everyone's minds once the season begins.
October 3, 2008
Amare Stoudemire will miss up to two weeks because he was poked in the eye! The East Valley Tribune reports that after consulting with two eye doctors and still experiencing some blurred vision after Boris Diaw’s finger partially tore the iris in his right eye, Stoudemire said he will shut down totally for the next five to 10 days and will then need at least a week of practice before taking part in any preseason games. He also says he will wear goggles throughout the remainder of his career to avoid similar situations. “I felt severe pain right away. I didn’t even know my eye was open because I saw nothing but darkness for two, three minutes,” Stoudemire said. “I was terrified. I was praying to God that I wasn’t blind in the eye. Slowly I started to see silhouettes but everything was very blurry. I could barely open the eye all day (Thursday). Today, the medication is taking away the pain and the blurriness is better. But my iris will never heal. I think I will wear goggles from here on out. I’ve been hit in the eye before and I don’t want to deal with this anymore. We’ll try them and see how it goes.”

Our View:With a new coach in camp, Stoudemire is missing out on some key practices and will likely miss the first week of preseason games. This is unfortunate news, but the plus-side is the NBA severely needed someone to rock the goggles on a nightly basis. Especially one of their biggest stars. Keep an eye on his preseason performances, but for now, don't let this effect his fantasy value. The bigger concern is how steep Terry Porter's learning curve is.
October 3, 2008
When Suns center Amare Stoudemire was accidentally poked in the eye by teammate Boris Diaw, he suffered from a partially torn iris, according to ESPN.com.

Our View:The injury is not serious, and though he will not play in the team's Friday scrimmage, he should return sometime over the weekend. He will be sporting goggles when he comes back, which he may have to wear for the remainder of his career.
October 2, 2008
Amare Stoudemire suffered an eye contusion, according to the Arizona Republic. The injury was suffered when Boris Diaw poked him in the eye during a scrimmage. Stoudemire does not figure to miss much, if any, practice time.

Our View:Stoudemire is still dealing a sore ankle, but appears determined to get his training started. It will be interesting to see how the fantasy gold-mine responds to the new coaching style in Phoenix. He remains a top-five lock in fantasy drafts.
September 30, 2008
Suns forward Amare Stoudemire did not participate in the team's second half of practice Tuesday, but only to work with the strength and conditioning coach, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View:Stoudemire is trying to completely heal a sprained left ankle, which is why he was spending time with the strength and conditioning coach instead of practice.
September 29, 2008
The AP reports that new coach Terry Porter singled out Amare Stoudemire as one of the Suns who has to, and can, play better defense. "I think that’s an area where he knows he has to get some growth going forward," Porter said, "and as far as this franchise going forward, our success is going to rely on that."

Our View:He added, "Shots won’t go up as quickly as they did with Mike (D'Antoni). I’m not a big believer of jacking the ball up as quickly as possible." It's a sad day for fantasy owners who often thrived on Phoenix's "Eight Seconds or Less" offense.
September 24, 2008
Amare Stoudemire will be limited in training camp due to a sprained ankle according to the East Valley Tribune. As a precaution, he saw the same doctor in Los Angeles who recently operated on Manu Ginobili. He confirmed it was just a sprain and that it should heal with rest. Suns head trainer Aaron Nelson said Stoudemire has “made a lot of improvement” over the last two weeks and even took part in one scrimmage last week before the decision was made to be more cautious. “We just want to make sure he’s ready to go before we give him a full workload,” Nelson said.

Our View:Stoudemire should still be more than ready to go by the season's tip-off, but this news might be enough to knock Stoudemire down to the fourth or fifth overall selection. A healthy Stoudemire puts up incredible across the board numbers that have him in the same breath as Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and Chris Paul in fantasy circles.
September 9, 2008
Amare Stoudemire sounds like he's ready for the season to start. He has been working hard on his fitness and his defense this offseason. "I feel fit and fierce," Stoudemire informs the Arizona Republic. "My health is tremendous." Regarding his work on defense, the big man adds, "I want to be Ron Artest. I want to be that guy you fear when you see him guarding you."

Our View:Stoudemire is already a fantasy stud, and at 26, he could be ready to take his all-around game to another level. The big man will make a case to be the No. 1 overall pick in fantasy leagues, although he may need to settle for a mere top-five ranking.
September 1, 2008
Amare Stoudemire went on a trip to Sierra Leone to help build water wells and try to improve the country's sanitation, according to ESPN.com.

Our View:This has little to do with fantasy basketball, other than knowing Stoudemire is healthy, but it is nice to see. The Suns forward is trying to improve the safety of drinking water and sanitation because so many in Sierra Leone die from it. According to ESPN.com, the average life expectancy in the country is 26 years.
June 20, 2008
Amare Stoudemire has turned down the chance to represent Team USA in the upcoming Olympics, according to the Arizona Republic. Managing director Jerry Colangelo said, "Amare has pulled himself out of consideration for the roster and that's predicated on, despite the fact that he's had an injury-free year coming back from knee surgeries in 2005 and 2006, he's a little hesitant on pushing the envelope too hard."

Our View:He had a spot reserved for him if he wanted to compete, but wants to take care of his knees and rest in the off-season. He would have accepted the honor to play for Team USA if he felt he was 100% healthy.
April 22, 2008
Amare Stoudemire scored 33 points for the second straight game, but the Suns dropped to 0-2 in the series against the Spurs. The big man added seven rebounds and three blocks.

Our View:Stoudemire has a history of playing well against Tim Duncan and company, but we guarantee he'd take a victory over his personal stats at this point.
April 19, 2008
As proved true during the regular season, it was Amare Stoudemire doing the bulk of the work for the Phoenix Suns in their 117-115 double OT loss to the Spurs. Stoudemire shot 13-for-26 from the field and 7-for-9 from the free-throw line to score 33 points. Stoudemire also added seven rebounds and two blocked shots to the statline, raking him as the MVP for Game 1 of this exciting 1st-round series.

Our View:What a fine all-around effort for Stoudemire who played almost 46 minutes in the game. Look for him to continue to be the lead dog in terms of point on offense for the Suns.
April 16, 2008
Amare Stoudemire will be a game-time decision for tonight, according to the East Valley Tribune. Stoudemire was reportedly sick during Monday's win over the Warriors and said he felt very fatigued after the game. He took part in Tuesday's practice, but wasn't able to go at practice on Wednesday.

Our View:His services will be missed if he ultimately cannot play, as he averages 25.3 points and 9.2 boards per contest.
April 11, 2008
Amare Stoudemire has shot forward this season and seems all too happy to be playing power forward and sharing the court with Shaq, and tonight was no exception. In the Suns 90-101 loss to the Houston Rockets, Stoudemire came through on his end with 14-of-24 from the floor and 9-of-11 at the free-throw line, scoring 37 points with 11 rebounds, two steals, and two blocked shots.

The Suns won their second game in a row on the second night of a back-to-back and remained in sixth place in the Western Conference.
April 8, 2008
With Shaq out nursing a hip contusion, Amare Stoudemire was forced back into the role of starting center but moved forward undeterred. On a night when SEVEN different players scored double-digit point totals, Stoudemire shined as the example to follow, going 10-of-13 from the field and a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe, scoring 28 points with 11 rebounds and five assists. Stoudemire has been strong this season, but he has been spectacular since Shaq joined the effort. This game back at center should give the Suns a huge level of confidence as the playoffs approach.
March 30, 2008
Amare Stoudemire stepped up and supplemented an off shooting night from Steve Nash, as the Suns won 110-104 in New Jersey. The game was delayed briefly in the second half after Shaquille O'Neal tore the mesh from the rim following a missed dunk attempt. Stoudemire recored yet another 30 point game (33 pts) and added 15 rebounds in the Suns win. Amare has clearly established himself as one of the top scoring options in the league after the arrival of O'Neal.
March 29, 2008
Amare Stoudemire enjoyed yet another strong performance, leading the Suns in a 110-104 victory over the New Jersey Nets. Amare was impressive from the field, going 12-of-15, adding 9-of-14 from the free-throw line to score 33 points, nicely spiced with 15 rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one block. Stoudemire has hit for 30 or more in seven of his last 12 games, adding double-digit rebound numbers in six of those games. He’s a stud and is flourishing since Shaq was added to cover the paint.

March 24, 2008
Amare Stoudemire, a game after hitting all 20 of his free throw attempts, made 15 of 16 on his way to 33 points for the Suns. Since the start of February, Stoudamire has been held under 20 points just once in 23 games as he continues to rain down points on the opposition.
March 23, 2008
Amare Stoudemire and Shaquille O'Neal each posted double-double efforts in leading the Phoenix Suns to a huge win over the Houston Rockets, 122-113. Stoudemire was the ringleader of chaos, scoring 38 points (going 8-of-10 from the field and a perfect 20-of-20 from the charity stripe) with 13 rebounds and four blocked shots. O'Neal posted 23 points of his own, matching Amare with 13 rebounds. The Suns need these two to get busy with these performances on daily basis. Steve Nash is struggling to get the job done and lead the team, but these two towers could rule the day with efforts like this.
March 20, 2008
Amare Stoudemire posted good numbers on Wednesday night (20 points and 6 boards) but he played sloppy as he committed nine turnovers and only hit 6-of-11 free throws. After the game he commented, “My passes, my catches, my free throws, it was all no good. But it’s all about the fourth quarter and I was able to finish strong and we closed it out.” This according to the East Valley Tribune.
March 19, 2008
Amare Stoudemire went 10-for-16 from the field this evening to lead the Phoenix Suns to victory over the Seattle SuperSonics, 110-98. Stoudemire finished with 20 points, six rebounds, and four assists on the evening. Just another night at the office for Stoudemire, though it should be noted that his play has certainly improved and grown more consistent with the addition of Shaq. Now he plays the roll in which he excels: Power forward, shooting and driving the lane.
March 15, 2008
Amare Stoudemire led the Suns with 30 points and 10 boards in their 127-99 win over the Kings. He also picked up one steal and one block and is now averaging 31.6 points and 11.3 boards over his last three games.

In an offensive display of gaudy proportions, the Suns' Amare Stoudemire led Phoenix to an astounding 132-111 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies, scoring 29 points with 13 rebounds, four assists, and a steal. Getting Amare working his proper position by trading for Shaq Fu has helped tremendously. Stoudemire is much more comfortable and posting the best numbers of his season.
March 8, 2008
Amare Stoudemire had a big game in a losing effort against the Jazz as he scored a game high 37 points. He is now averaging 27.8 points over his last five games.

On a night when eight Phoenix players would score in double digits... and lose, Amare Stoudemire was the top dog with 22 points. Stoudemire also added six rebounds in the 113-126 loss to Denver.
February 27, 2008
Amare Stoudemire was once again the Suns biggest offensive performer as he posted 32 points and 14 rebounds on Wednesday night. Amare also blocked four Hornets shots and even tossed in a three pointer for good measure. Maybe he read our critique of his rebounding in our last post as his 14 boards tonight were more than the 10 he put up the last two games.
February 23, 2008
Amare Stoudemire scored a game-high 28 points for the Suns on Friday night in their 85-77 victory over the Celtics. With Shaq on hand Amare's primary task certainly isn't rebounding, but that doesn't mean that he should be satisfied with six boards. It also wouldn't hurt at all if he passed the rock a bit more as he had just one assist on Friday night.
February 15, 2008
Amare Stoudemire scored 26 points in the Suns 109-97 win over the Mavs on Thursday night. Stoudemire, who had averaged nearly 14 rebounds per game over the teams last five contests, had a lowly three boards Thursday night.
February 13, 2008
Amare Stoudemire led four Suns who scored 20-points on Wednesday night with 29, though they still fell to the Warriors 120-118. Though the overall line looks good, Amare actually blew the game by missing two foul shots with less than four seconds left that could have sent the game to OT. The 78.3% foul shooter also lost a streak of 36-straight free throws made earlier in the game though he still finished 9-for-12 on the night.
February 11, 2008
Amare Stoudemire was named the Western Conference player of the week according to the AP. The Suns went 3-1 last week averaging 28.5 points, 13.5 rebounds and 3.25 blocks, best in the West. February 11, 2008
Amare Stoudemire scored 31 points as the Suns found the fortitude to hold off the Wizards 108-107 on Sunday night. Stoudemire has consecutive games of at least 30 points and 10 rebounds for the first time since Feb. 8-9, 2005. In the three games since the trade brought Shaquille O'Neal from Miami, Stoudemire is averaging 30 points and 16.5 rebounds. One has to believe the trade for the 'Shaq' has motivated the Suns starting center.
February 4, 2008
Amare Stoudemire had 24 points and 11 rebounds on only 11 shots, he converted seven, as he totaled almost half his points from the charity stripe (10-for-12). Raja Bell added 24 points while Leanardo Barbosa tossed in a game-high 30 points including five three pointers in the Suns 118-104 victory over the Bobcats.
