Delonte West only scored eight points, but he did grab five rebounds while doling out 10 assists in the Cavaliers' 117-82 win over the Thunder.

Our View:Oklahoma City is easily the worst team in the NBA, so West was able to amass 7.5 more assists than his per-game average coming into the game.
November 25, 2008
Delonte West scored 16 points in the Cavaliers' 119-101 win over the Knicks.

Our View:West scored 16 but was only 1-of-7 from the three point line.
November 19, 2008
Delonte West had a decent game for Cleveland on Wednesday, finishing with 11 points, two rebounds, an assists, and a block.

Our View:West is available in about 80 percent of leagues and is usually only good for about 10 points with a few rebounds and assists.s
November 3, 2008
Delonte West finished with 14 points on 4-of-5 shooting as the Cavaliers defeated the Mavericks 100-81. He had three treys, five assists, four rebounds, and three steals on the night.

Our View:This was a very efficient game for Cleveland's starting shooting guard and his best of the season so far. West remains a viable fantasy bench option as he can do a little bit of everything, but nothing exceptionally.
November 3, 2008
Mike Brown said Delonte West would probably start at shooting guard against the Mavericks on Monday. He had slightly injured his wrist on Saturday.

Our View:West has played mostly below expectations this season which may be in part due to a short preseason. Keep an eye on his production as he is capable of becoming a nice bench player in fantasy leagues.
October 27, 2008
Delonte West will likely be the Cavaliers' starting shooting guard, according to the News-Herald. Coach Mike Brown said, "He’s athletic and has long arms. He’s tough as nails. Height-wise, he might not be where you want, but if you put those other things together, he’s there. There’s a good chance he will start."

Our View:West's ankle injury is not serious, and West is worth acquiring as a fantasy reserve.
October 26, 2008
Delonte West's sprained left ankle isn't expected to keep him out of Tuesday's opener, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "If it was a regular-season game, I would've thought about going out there," West said. "We'll see. I could probably practice tomorrow on it."

Our View:Check back for updates, but it sounds like Delonte is a safe bet for Tuesday.
October 24, 2008
Delonte West started on Friday night but had to leave the game when he injured his left ankle in the second quarter, according to the Associated Press. Sashsa Pavlovic entered the game and scored eight points to go along with three rebounds and three assists in place of West.

Our View:The team said the troubled guard could have returned had the game mattered which is obviously great news. Keep an eye on how West responds to this minor setback given his current emotional state.
October 17, 2008
The AP reports Delonte West has missed the preseason and most of training camp to be treated for depression and “a mood disorder” he has been battling his entire life. West said Friday that he removed himself from the team to “get my thoughts back together.”

Our View:West should battle for the starting shooting guard position but he is far behind the many other contenders for that job at this point.
October 15, 2008
Delonte West returned to the Cavaliers practice on Wednesday after he missed two weeks to deal with a personal matter, according to Sports Illustrated.

Our View:West signed a 2-year deal with the Cavs last month and appears likely to back up Mo Williams at the point this season though he is clearly behind Daniel Gibson in the early going because of the missed time.
October 14, 2008
The AP reports that Cleveland coach Mike Brown said before the game there is no timetable for the return of Delonte West, who hasn't played this preseason because of undisclosed personal reasons.

Our View:West was considered a candidate to start at shooting guard but it has been Wally Szczerbiak and Daniel Gibson who have doing the work there during the preseason.
October 14, 2008
Delonte West will not attend tonight's preseason game against Boston while still dealing with an undisclosed personal matter, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View:He has been away from the team for the last 10 days. He was considered a top candidate to start at shooting guard, but is missing valuable practice time, and could lose ground to Mo Williams and Wally Szczerbiak.
October 12, 2008
Delonte West remains absent from camp while attending to an undisclosed personal matter, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.

Our View:He is a top candidate to start at shooting guard, but is missing valuable camp time, and could lose ground to Mo Williams and Wally Szczerbiak.
October 8, 2008
Delonte West missed the Cavaliers' game on Tuesday to attend to an undisclosed personal matter, according to the Chronicle-Telegram.

Our View:West remains a top candidate to start at shooting guard.
September 21, 2008
Delonte West and Mo Williams might both end up starting in the Cavs backcourt come the start of the season, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View:Both guys would be lucky to be 6'3" in sneakers, but with only Wally Szczerbiak likely to challenge for the starting spot at shooting guard, it really appears like the club could roll out one of the smallest starting backcourts in the league.
September 12, 2008
Delonte West has agreed to a new contract with the Cavaliers, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The deal is reportedly for three years. He had been seeking a deal starting around $5 million a season.

Our View:West is a solid reserve guard as he averaged 8.3 points, 3.2 boards, 3.8 assists, and one steal per game in 2007, but his fantasy value looks to remain limited for the upcoming campaign.
September 4, 2008
Restricted free agent Delonte West and the Cleveland Cavaliers are still undergoing negotiations, as West would like a deal worth more than $5 million per year, and the Cavs are offering more along the lines of $4 million per year, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.

Our View:West is a solid role player, putting up over eight points, three rebounds and nearly four assists per game.
August 17, 2008
As we continue to track the effects of the Mo Williams trade, we are now hearing Delonte West may choose to stay with the Cavaliers by signing his one-year qualifying offer of $2.76 million, a move that would allow him to become an unrestricted free agent next summer, according to ESPN.com.

Our View:With Williams now inserted as the starter and several players in the wings in need of playing time (including Daniel Gibson, Wally Szczerbiak, and West), there is a definitive need to assess his scenario and determine what will work best. Becoming a free agent is a goal, but playing now and proving his worth will help that process, and that may not come in Cleveland. We'll keep you posted.
August 14, 2008
Cavaliers general manager Danny Ferry says the team is still negotiating with guard Delonte West despite trading for Mo Williams. "This changes nothing on the Delonte front," Ferry tells the Akron Beacon Journal. "We want him back and hope we can reach a common ground." West is a restricted free agent.

Our View:Do you think West and his agent are buying that line? West can play both guard spots, but Williams, Daniel Gibson, and Wally Szczerbiak all need playing time alongside LeBron James. We're guessing that West will want to find a way to play elsewhere as he heads into the final year of his contract.
July 25, 2008
Yahoo Sports indicates that Delonte West is considering a two-year deal worth $10 million to play for Dynamo Moscow.

Our View:West has few options as a restricted free agent right now. He could sign a $2.76 million qualifying offer for the 2008-09 season and become an unrestricted free agent next year. Cavs' GM Danny Ferry has considered sign-and-trade possibilities for West but he really wants to keep West.
July 19, 2008
The Chronicle-Telegram reports that Delonte West and the Cavaliers are in negotiations to keep West in Cleveland. West is a restricted free agent.

Our View:West was significantly better last season once he landed with the Cavaliers. Expect his numbers to go up with more familiarity of his running mates. He is a capable backup point guard in deep fantasy leagues.
May 18, 2008
Delonte West played 45 minutes on Sunday and scored 15 points with three rebounds and five assists in the Cavs 97-92 loss to the Celtics. West also turned the ball over six times in the loss.

Our View:And so ends an extremely up and down playoff season for West as he scored 20 or more points three times while being held to less than seven points six times marking him as someone who is just a little bit short of finding the type of consistency that is needed to take his game to the next level.
May 15, 2008
Delonte West developed a mysterious irritation in his left eye during the second half of Monday’s Game 4 in Cleveland against the Celtics, according to the Boston Herald. West visited an eye specialist in Boston and was cleared to play in Game 5 last night. West said, "They said it’s an irritation. All I can describe it like is the feeling of having something in your eye, and it’s constantly there. Things like that can ruin your whole day. I have ointments and all sorts of eye drops to help me get through the game, so it shouldn’t be a problem."

Our View:The ailment did not hinder him, as he poured in 21 points on Wednesday in Game 5. He should be good to go in critical Game 6, as Boston leads 3-2.
May 14, 2008
Delonte West dropped 21 points and make some late fourth quarter steals to give Cleveland a fighting chance. But in the end the Celtics outlasted the Cavs 96-89 on Wednesday night.

Our View:West added two rebounds and four assists in the losing effort.
May 10, 2008
The Cavs finally jumped back into form, finding an impressive 108-84 win in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals over the Boston Celtics while LeBron James finally found a worthy running mate. PG Delonte West went 7-of-11 from the field, an impressive 4-of-6 from the three-point stripe, and 3-of-3 from the free-throw line to match LeBron with 21 points, adding five rebound, seven assists, and a steal to the stat line.

Our View:If West can show like this every time on the floor, the Cavs could be as dangerous as any team in the east. Chances of him pulling that off? Slim and none.
April 27, 2008
Delonte West stepped up his game and served as the point guard the Cavs need to make noise in these NBA Playoffs, serving as the primary source of support for LeBron James and helping the Cavs secure a win in Game 4 of their playoff series with the Washington Wizards, 100-97, giving the Cavs a stout 3-1 series lead. West shot 7-of-12 from the field and a surprising 5-of-8 from three-point range to score 21 points.

Our View:It would be nice to see West dishing a bit more to help James get others involved (just five assists on the day), but his ability to step up and score in a tightly-fought battle shows he is doing what he can to push the Cavs forward.
April 24, 2008
Delonte West had his second straight disappearing act on Thursday as he followed up a three point, three assist night with five points and two assists in Game 3.

Our View:One word describes his play - ugly. West is far from a top draw, we are all aware of that, but he simply must contributed something if the Cavs are to move on in the playoffs.
April 21, 2008
Delonte West was just about the only Cavalier to struggle on Monday night as he was just 1-for-5 from the field on his way to three points, one rebound and three assists.

Our View:Momma told us there would be nights like this. At least the Cavs won, but if Cleveland wants to challenge the Celtics for supremacy in the East, they will need more from West.
April 19, 2008
The Cleveland Cavaliers entered the NBA Playoffs with one major question: Who is going to help LeBron James? After the 86-93 win over the Washington Wizards in Game 1, it appears center Zydrunas Ilgauskas and shooting guard Delonte West are going to stpe into the role. Ilgauskas shot just 7-of-17 from the floor but went a perfect 8-of-8 from the free-throw line, scoring 22 points with a team-high 11 rebounds. Meanwhile, Delonte West shot a troubling 3-of-10 from the floor but also was perfect at the charity stripe, shooting 8-of-8 to finish with a total of 16 points, adding five rebounds, five assists, two steals, and two blocks.

Our View:Ilgauskas is still not 100% healthy, but he's the presence down low that will give the Cavs a distinct advantage over many of the teams in the Eastern Conference. West could do much better, but his performance today made a tremendous difference in earning the win and could serve as a sign of things to come.
April 5, 2008
Delonte West went 7-for-10 from the field on his way to 19 points for the Cavs. West hit three 3-pointers on the day with six rebounds and five assists, though that performance was somewhat mitigated by the fact that West turned the ball over five times. West has averaged 9.5 points and 4.7 assists over 21 games in Cleveland which is not quite the upward surge in production that was hoped for after his trade with the Sonics. Still, this is only his fourth season, so perhaps next season will bring the awaited breakout.
February 27, 2008
Delonte West scored 20 points and grabbed five rebounds in almost 36 minutes of action in his best scoring game since becoming a Cavalier. However, after posting 13 assists over two games, he was limited to just two on Wednesday night, which when coupled with three turnovers, somewhat dampens his performance.
February 21, 2008
In the second largest trade in league history, three teams moved 11 players. Cleveland received Wally Szczerbiak, Delonte West, Joe Smith and Ben Wallace. Chicago receives Larry Hughes, Drew Gooden, Cedric Simmons and Shannon Brown. The Sonics will receive Adrian Griffin, Donyell Marshall and Ira Newble according to a report on the AP. West will likely become the Cavs starting PG so his numbers figure to grow substantially from their current level (6.8 points, 3.2 assists).
February 12, 2008
Delonte West missed the team's Tuesday practice according to Seattle PI. Sonics coach P.J. Carlesimo told the paper that West's knee was bothering him and it wasn't good. The news on West makes it unlikely he will dress for Wednesday night's game against Utah.
February 6, 2008
Delonte West was unable to practice Wednesday, as he's nursing a left quad strain. He'll be a game-time decision tonight, according to the Seattle Times.
