Newsbreakers
December 3, 2008
Updating earlier reports Tony Allen will not play Wednesday night because of a sprained ankle, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:Allen injured his ankle on Monday and the team thought he would be able to play on Wednesday. He doesn't have much fantasy value this year.
December 2, 2008
Tony Allen is probably going to play on Wednesday night, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:Allen doesn't have much fantasy value as he plays under 20 minutes per game. He's available in nearly all leagues.
November 9, 2008
Tony Allen led the Celtics in scoring with 23 points in less than 28 minutes of action of the bench in the Celtics 88-76 victory over the Pistons.

Our View:Allen entered the night scoring 9.3 points, this after a season of 6.6 points per game last season, so don't expect the former Oklahoma State star to have too many 20 point efforts this season.
October 16, 2008
Tony Allen scored 32 points on 11-of-18 shooting in the Celtics 111-108 win over the Detroit Pistons on Thursday.

Our View:Allen has had a good preseason, putting up solid point totals. Look for him to get good minutes as the team's sixth man.
October 10, 2008
Tony Allen scored a game-high 25 points in Friday's 96-94 preseason win over the Cavaliers. He also recorded four rebounds, three assists, three steals, and one block.

Our View:He played 41 minutes in the game, and could be fantasy worthy as the Celtics' projected sixth man this season.
July 24, 2008
Danny Ainge had plenty of positive things to tell the Boston Globe about Tony Allen. "He has been our best perimeter defender the last few years, when he got a chance to play. He's a guy the coaches and his teammates trust as a perimeter defender. He is also one of the toughest guys we have on the team, he's an instigator physically. He's an aggressive, attacking offensive player we really didn't have... He didn't contribute as much as he could because of the knee injury. When [Allen] had a chance to play significant minutes last year - actually the last few years - he played really well. He struggled in short-minute roles. We were 9-2 when he started. Our defense was better when he was on the court. In plus-minus we were plus-31 with Tony on the court as a starter.

Our View:Allen could be the sixth man in the Celtics coming season and would start should Allen or Pierce go down with an injury. He is a good source of steals but it remains to be seen how much he'll actually contribute next season.
July 21, 2008
Tony Allen and the Celtics have agreed upon a two-year contract, according to espn.com. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Our View:Allen averaged 6.6 points and 1.5 assists in 75 games for Boston last season.
July 2, 2008
According to the Boston Globe, Tony Allen was not made a qualifying offer to remain with the Boston Celtics before the July 1 deadline.

Our View:Allen's chances of returning were hurt by the Celtics' draft. They selected two players, J.R. Giddens and Bill Walker, both play his position. Allen will find a home some where. He is just 26 and has 72 career starts.
June 30, 2008
The Celtics are trying to make a decision on Monday whether or not to extend a qualifying offer to guard Tony Allen, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:He will become an unrestricted free agent if the club doesn't give him an offer. He won't hold much fantasy value in a reserve role if he remains in Boston.
June 3, 2008
Tony Allen is battling an Achilles' tendon injury, but was able to participate in a full practice on Tuesday, and was even dunking and jumping, according to ESPN.com. He did not make it through the team walkthrough on Monday, but Allen said massages have helped his leg feel better.

Our View:This is favorable news for the Celtics, as Allen has had some success guarding MVP Kobe Bryant. He held Bryant to 22 points on 6-for-25 shooting back on December 30, in a game that Boston won 110-91.
June 2, 2008
Tony Allen is doubtful for the NBA Finals, according to the AP. Coach Doc Rivers said (following practice on Monday), "It doesn’t look good. He couldn’t get through even the walkthrough portion."

Our View:He isn't a heavy hitter as a scorer for the Celtics, but could still be considered a tough loss if he doesn't play, as he has had some success guarding MVP Kobe Bryant. He held Bryant to 22 points on 6-for-25 shooting back on December 30, in a game that Boston won 110-91.
May 30, 2008
Tony Allen will miss Game 6 against Detroit due to his Achilles' strain, according to the Boston Globe. Allen made the decision that he wouldn't be playing tonight after testing it during the shoot around this morning at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Our View:Forward Brian Scalabrine is expected to be activated in Allen's place. Allen is yet to score a point in any of his three appearances in the series against Detroit.
May 30, 2008
Celtics' guard Tony Allen sat out Game 5 with a "mild Achilles strain". He is a game time decision for Friday night's Game 6.

Our View:Forward Brian Scalabrine was activated in his place, though Boston's yet to go very deep into their bench against Detroit.
May 28, 2008
Celtics guard Tony Allen has been listed as inactive for tonight's Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals after suffering an Achilles tendon injury during pregame warmups, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Allen is a backup, having made little contributing during the playoffs. The team describes the injury as a mild strain.
March 20, 2008
Tony Allen, who has been replacing the injured Ray Allen, was inactive for the win in Dallas with a bruised lower back. Allen has little fantasy value if teammate Ray Allen is healthy and active.
March 19, 2008
Tony Allen took a hard foul from Luis Scola on Tuesday night and may need to miss some time. "My lower back is pretty sore," Allen tells the Boston Globe. "I need to get some ice and treatment and a massage and hopefully I will be OK. The win makes it feel better." We'll consider him day-to-day.
March 2, 2008
Tony Allen is expected to return to action on Sunday, according to the Boston Herald. "I ain’t forcing myself - I just don’t want to lose my conditioning," said Allen. "(The calf) is still tight, but I can do a couple of things. I can fight through it." Allen's been dealing with a strained right calf and the flu, but he won't have any fantasy value even at full strength.
February 29, 2008
Tony Allen missed his second straight contest Friday with a strained right calf, according to the AP. Allen is considered day-to-day, but he shouldn't be on your fantasy squad, anyway.
