The Pistons and Jason Maxiell agreed on a $20 million, four-year contract extension, according to the AP.

Our View:Maxiell is a key member of the Pistons front court. Even though he is a big part of the team he doesn't hold much fantasy value.

The AP reports that the Pistons have offered Jason Maxiell a $20 million, four-year contract, but he is expected to leave the deal on the table before Friday's deadline to test the market as a free agent next summer.

Our View:Maxiell played 19 minutes in the season opener and is in the front court rotation with Rasheed Wallace, Amir Johnson, and Antonio McDyess. His lack of minutes will prohibit him from making a fantasy impact this season.

Jason Maxiell played a team-high 36 minutes in Detroit's 87-88 loss to Atlanta in the preseason finale on Thursday night. He shot just 4-for-13 on his way to 13 points, eight rebounds, a block and a steal.

Our View:Amir Johnson is still ahead of him in the rotation and as of now there's not a lot of reason to expect much better production than what he put up last season. Should he take over the starting role, that could all change.
October 18, 2008
Jason Maxiell expects to reject a three-year $15 million deal from the Pistons, and he expects to become a restricted free agent after the 2008 season, according to MLive.com.

Our View:As a restricted free agent, the Pistons will have the option to match any contract offer from another team.

Pistons' coach Michael Curry that the starting forward position is up for grabs and it could land in Jason Maxiell's lap, according to the Detroit News. Curry stated, "Whoever wins that starting spot won't necessarily be the best player. I think it's hands-down that (Antonio) McDyess is our second-best post player behind Rasheed (Wallace). But who we end up starting will be the player who gives us the best balance."

Our View:He started six games in the playoffs for the Pistons before being moved back to his sixth man role. Given the opportunity to compete for a starting spot, expect the high-motored Maxiell to win the battle.

Jason Maxiell started six games in the playoffs for the Pistons before being moved back to his sixth man role, but it appears that he has also fallen out of that role as well, according to the Detroit Free Press. "We've tried to match Theo up on (Kevin) Garnett at times when we've taken those other guys out to get him a little rest," HC FLip Saunders said. "Really, right now, (Antonio McDyess) is playing unbelievable. There are only so many minutes to divide up."

Our View:Maxiell played only five minutes in Game 2, and based on the statement you just read from the head coach, it certainly doesn't seem like Maxiell is anywhere near recovering some of his lost minutes.
May 7, 2008
Detroit power forward Jason Maxiell has started the past five games for the Pistons in place of Antonio McDyess, even though McDyess (nose) is reportedly healthy.

Our View:Maxiell brings youth, energy and fresh legs to a game that is likely to be more up and down as the series moves forward.

The big boys in Detroit saw limited time on the floor tonight but won, 74-102, behind the surprising jump from second-year forward Jason Maxiell . Maxiell was an amazing 11-of-13 from the floor and 6-of-9 from the free throw line finish with 28 points on the evening. Maxiell also found eight rebounds and two assists on the day.

Our View:Maxiell isn't going to see significant playing time with the starting rotation this club carries, but tonight's performance shows he can play and the Detroit Lions need to be feared, if for nothing more, for their depth.

Jason Maxiell matched his season high by scoring 18 points against the Nugs on Tuesday. He hit eight of his 11 field-goal attempts, grabbed seven boards and handed out three assists. His minutes fluctuate from game to game, which severely limits his reliability as a fantasy option, but once the Pistons lock up their postseason position, he should be in line for a boost in minutes and production. Keep an eye on him if you need boards and blocks.

Jason Maxiell contributed his best game in about three weeks with 11 points and 11 boards on Wednesday night. Maxiell has improved each of his three years in the league, but he still is best left on waivers at this point of his career unless you are in a dynasty format.
