Ellis has admitted to lying to the Warriors about the circumstances surrounding his ankle injury, for which he had surgery on August 27. According to the Contra Costa Times, the injury was not sustained "in a gym" and "it happened outdoors and while not playing basketball." The two sides are discussing how to put the situation behind them.

Our View:If the injury itself is not enough penalty for Ellis, he is likely to be penalized by the team. If he is not able to play again, the Warriors could terminate the six-year, $66 million contract he signed in July.

The Golden State Warriors have questions about the explanation guard Monta Ellis gave them about how he hurt his ankle and are investigating, according to the Contra Costa Times. During a conference call on Wednesday, team executive vice president of basketball operations Chris Mullin said he didn't know the details of what led to Ellis' injury, only that "I was told he was working out in Jackson."

Our View:Ellis, who was recently awarded a huge pay raise by the Warriors, will be sidelined at least three months after suffering a severe high ankle sprain in his hometown of Jackson, Mississippi. He underwent surgery Wednesday in Birmingham, Alabama, to repair a torn deltoid ligament in his left ankle. However, team officials, according to one of the sources, are skeptical about Ellis' explanation because of the severity of the injury, according to the report. The team has sent athletic trainer Tom Abdenour to Jackson, Mississippi, to examine Ellis. The Warriors declined comment and calls to Ellis were not returned, the newspaper reported. Ellis' ankle will be immobilized for six weeks, followed by at least six weeks of off-court rehab before the 6-foot-3 guard can return to basketball workouts, ruling Ellis out for all of training camp and the preseason and at least the first month of the regular season. Chances are that he won't play until December.

Golden State guard Monta Ellis needs surgery and will miss three to four months because of a torn deltoid ligament in his foot, according to ESPN.com. He said he injured it working out, and will need to immobilize the foot for at least a month and a half following surgery.

Our View:Losing Ellis, who signed a $66 million contract with the team in the offseason, is a devastating blow to the Warriors playoff chances. It also severely impacts his fantasy value, as he could be out until December.
July 24, 2008
Monta Ellis signed a six-year deal worth $66 million to remain with the Warriors, according to the Contra Costa Times.

Our View:By the size of the contract, it appears that Ellis would have the edge over Marcus Williams for the starting point guard job next season. He averaged 20.2 points last season, and could significantly improve on his assist totals (averaged 3.9 per contest) while running the offense from the point guard position.
July 14, 2008
The Warriors seem confident that emerging superstar Monta Ellis can handle the point guard duties for the Warriors next season, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The same article also mentions several teams are interested in sign-and-trade scenarios for Ellis but GM Chris Mullin is intent on keeping him.

Our View:Look out for another big campaign from Ellis. In his three seasons his scoring average has gone from 6.8 to 16.5 to 20.2. As the primary ball handler, his 3.9 assist rate could double. Don Nelson has coached a number of fantasy studs at the position including Steve Nash, Tim Hardaway and Baron Davis.

Free agent Monta Ellis is interested in joining the New York Knicks, according to New York Newsday. A restricted free agent, he is said to be seeking around $10 million per year.

Our View:Ellis would do great things in Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni's system. He's already a top fantasy player, but his 20.2 points per game would likely increase under D'Antoni.

The Examiner reports that the Memphis Grizzlies are said to be interested in Monta Ellis, a restricted free agent. The 22 year-old is one of many coveted restricted free agents.

Our View:The Grizzlies were forced to use small forward Mike Miller at off-guard last season. There is a chance Miller will be traded this off season which would open up shots and even more cash for the Jackson, Mississippi native. If the Griz were to offer $10 million or more per season, the Warriors would be hesitant to match.
May 26, 2008
Monta Ellis will be a restricted free agent in July, and could be interested in joining coach Mike D'Antoni in New York, according to Newsday.

Our View:Ellis excelled in Don Nelson's fast break offense in Golden State, and would fit in very well in D'Antoni's up-tempo style with the Knicks. Ellis averaged 20.2 points per game in 2007-08.
April 14, 2008
Monta Ellis posted a season-high six steals in Monday's loss to the Suns. He also filled the box score with 20 points, six assists, and eight rebounds.

Our View:Ellis is a fantasy stud, and he'll really be something if he ever adds threes to his arsenal.
April 10, 2008
Monta Ellis was the Warriors' leading scorer in Thursday's loss to the Nuggets. Ellis led the way with 29 points and Al Harrington added 20. Ellis, who isn't the most physical of players in a tough league, is, however, a true talent and will be a fantasy first or second rounder in the fall.

Monta Ellis came up big in Sunday's 108-96 loss to the Hornets, as he generated a game-high 35 points with 10 boards, two assists, four steals, and a block. That was the 12th time that he reached at least 30 points in a game this season.

March 20, 2008
Monta Ellis has come on strong in recent weeks for the Golden State Warriors and once again pushed his team to victory, defeating the Clippers 116-100. Ellis posted 28 points with six assists and three rebounds on the evening. Only Stephen Jackson scored more for Golden State (29). Ellis has polished his offensive prowess and seems to be following the lead of veteran Baron Davis. He has a long way to go to reach that level, but the journey has been started.
March 13, 2008
Monta Ellis continues to work as a player to fear, posting 33 points with six rebounds and four assists in Golden State's 117-106 win over Toronto. Monta has been scoring big in the last month and should earn some consideration each time you fill out the fantasy roster.
March 5, 2008
Monta Ellis enjoyed an outstanding evening of personal achievement though his Warriors lost, 109-118 to the Charlotte Bobcats. Ellis scored 32 points with eight rebounds, five assists, one steal, and one block.
March 3, 2008
Monta Ellis scored 22 points and added six assists, 10 boards, and one steal against the Trail Blazers on Sunday night. He is coming off a February in which he averaged 26.0 points, 4.8 assists, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.3 steals and shot 60.2 percent.
February 19, 2008
Over his last five games, Monta Ellis is averaging 27.8 points, shooting a crazy 70 percent from the floor, hauling in six rebounds and dishing out four assists per game. His 37 vs. the Suns on Wednesday came with a career-high 18 field goals, according to SF Gate. "He's hot," Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said. "He's got everything. He's got the little jump shot, going to the basket, very athletic, young legs. He's in a real good moment." If the vote was cast today Ellis would be the leagues Most Improved Player. With his FG line at 53 percent, he trails only Utah's Ronnie Brewer (55 percent) and Toronto's Jose Calderon (54 percent) among the league's guards.
February 13, 2008
Monta Ellis scored 37 points on Wednesday night, his fifth straight game of at least 21 points, as the Warriors defeated the Suns 120-118. He also played every second of the game. Ellis is simply tearing up opponents right now with slashing drives and pinpoint shooting on his way to 70% shooting the past five games when he is averaging 27.8 points. There isn't a more dynamic 6'3" player in the league than Ellis.
February 10, 2008
Monta Ellis led the Warriors with 34 points, including a big-time 16 in the 4th quarter, as the Warriors defeated the Kings. Ellis has made 23 of his last 26 shots and is hot as a pistol right now with three straight games of at least 21 points and he has scored at least 16 points in each of the last eight games.
February 8, 2008
Golden State shooting guard Monta Ellis continued his consistent play leading the Warriors with 25 points in Thursday's loss to the Bulls. Ellis' 25 points was his 24th game of double digit scoring in his last 25 games. Ellis is a perfect fit in the Golden State offense and is a solid No. 2 guard option in most fantasy formats.
