Monta Ellis sprained a finger on his left hand during Friday's game. Initially, it was supposed to keep him from playing Sunday, but he suited up anyway, according to the Contra Costa Times. Ellis racked up just 13 points on 5-of-14 shooting and had five turnovers and five fouls, so he might have been better off skipping the game.

Warriors coach Don Nelson planned on using Monta Ellis strictly as a point guard this season, but with Ellis missing much of the preseason due to a strained neck and Troy Hudson playing well behind Baron Davis, he is leaning towards last year’s philosophy of using Ellis as a combo guard and pairing him with Baron Davis. “Without (Ellis) playing, all I can do is remember what happened last year, and I like him on the floor,” Nelson told the San Francisco Chronicle. “We have to find a way to work him in. He’s a good young player and has made the step from his rookie year. … I think to get the best performance out of Monta, I’m going to play him with Baron as much as I can.”

The scary neck injury Monta Ellis sustained recently will keep him sidelined a while longer. He didn't practice Saturday and won't take part in the Warriors' exhibition games Sunday or Monday, according to the Contra Costa Times. Considering there was initial concern of paralysis, that Ellis came away from the tumble with only a sprained neck, things look great for him. It's not clear exactly when he'll be ready for game action again, but it appears safe to draft him without concern.

A deal that would have sent Monta Ellis to the Hawks for the No. 11 overall pick was passed on by executive vice president of basketball operations Chris Mullin on Tuesday. The Oakland Tribune reported that the deal was close to being finalized, but the Warriors backed out because the pick likely wasn’t high enough to land the player they wanted – Chinese forward Yi Jianlian.

Monta Ellis, who recently suffered a knee contusion, will not require an MRI exam after all because his knee did not swell as much as feared, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. He is questionable for tonight's conest.

Monta Ellis banged knees with Indiana's Danny Granger last night and left the game for good, according to the Contra Costa Times. He was diagnosed with a contusion. X-rays were negative, but an MRI is scheduled to see if he damaged the area of the knee that previously was surgically repaired when he was in high school. "Yeah, I can't move it," said Ellis. "That's where I had my surgery, on the same side (the outside) of the same knee."
