July 18, 2008 The Sixers have inked first-round pick Marreese Speights, according to the Our View:Speights has strong upside while coming out of Florida University as the 16th overall pick in the draft, and is expected to provide solid depth to the Sixers' frontcourt as a rookie. He has potential to play a favorable amount of minutes per game, and could rank as a late-round sleeper for next season. |

July 11, 2008 Philly's first round selection, Marreese Speights, dropped in a 22 points and 13 boards for the 76ers summer league team on Friday. Our View:Coming out of Florida, Speights was deemed to have a very high ceiling. He looked like he was in a hurry to get there on Friday. Despite the addition of Elton Brand, Speights could get into the rotation in Philly. They are currently very thin in the front court. At 6-foot-10 and 245 pounds, his body is NBA ready. |

June 26, 2008 The Philadelphia 76ers have selected Florida forward Marreese Speights with the 16th pick in this year's NBA Draft. Our View:Speights may be one of the hidden gems of this draft. He is a force in the post, possessing outstanding power and a nose for the ball. He is solid in all facets of the game and will provide an immediately uplift to the defenese with the touch to become a threat on offense. The Sixers have Samuel Dalembert down low, but Speights has the game to push him for minutes and, possibly, the starting job. We've been seeing picks for the future by several teams now. This selection by Philly could give them an immediate starter. |
