June 28, 2008 It seems the New Jersey Nets had the opportunity to get a bit more action going on draft night, an already-hectic affair as one of several teams utilizing the interests trade to get business going, but an offer for Vince Carter failed to yield yet another major roster change, according to the Our View:The Cleveland Cavaliers reportedly offered guard Wally Szczerbiak and his expiring $13.2 million contract to the Nets for Carter, but New Jersey failed to see the value. That speaks volumes for a player many have questioned over recent seasons. The reconstruction of this team has been massive, but it appears Carter is part of the plan. |

May 9, 2008 The Nets have promoted Kiki Vandeweghe from special assistant to general manager. "We've still got a lot of work to do, which I'm excited about. I'm looking forward to getting right at it," Vandeweghe tells the Our View:The Nets have some nice pieces in Vince Carter, Richard Jefferson, Devin Harris, and Nenad Krstic. Their future seems to rest on if young players like Josh Boone, Marcus Williams, Sean Williams, and Maurice Ager can turn into productive parts of the rotation. Coincidentally, Vandeweghe helped the Nets build that young group, as the former Nuggets GM once traded the franchise three first-round picks for Kenyon Martin. |
