Hawks add "Flip" Murray
Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - The Atlanta Hawks signed free agent guard Ronald "Flip" Murray on Wednesday. Per team policy, terms were not disclosed.

The 29-year-old split his time between the Detroit Pistons and the Indiana Pacers last season. He was released after averaging 7.5 points and 3.4 assists in 19 games for Detroit, and, after Indiana signed him on March 1, he logged averages of 11 points and 3.5 assists in 23 games for the Pacers.

Marvin Williams, G

Multiple league insiders believe Marvin Williams will be a key factor for the Hawks in the 2008-09 season. If he can step up his game, the Hawks could be a strong contender in the East. "Iâm not suggesting that Marvin needs to try and be something heâs not right now," one of the insiders tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "Iâm only suggesting that he has to become more of a presence, more of a factor than heâs been in the past. He has to be a threat every night and not just every two or three games."

Our View:Don't misread what these insiders are saying. Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, Al Horford, and Mike Bibby are the Hawks best components, but these people see Williams as the "X" factor. The former second overall pick has made strides over his three seasons, and another jump forward is the issue. If that happens, Williams may turn into a much more useful fantasy player, too.

Ronald Murray, G

Ronald Murray has rejected overtures from European clubs and has signed with the Atlanta Hawks, according to the AP.

Our View:Murray joins the Hawks as part of a replacement for Josh Childress, who went to play in Greece. Murray's fantasy value is minimal unless he sees a lot more minutes.

Thomas Gardner, G

Tuesday 8/12, 9:33 AM CT

The Hawks have signed guard Thomas Gardner, according to NBA.com. Terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

Our View:The Missouri product played in four games last season with the Chicago Bulls, averaging 5.3 PPG and 1.0 RPG.
