Nuggets G Atkins has surgery
Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Denver Nuggets guard Chucky Atkins will be out the next six weeks after he had surgery Wednesday on his right knee.

The arthroscopic procedure to repair cartilage and clean out loose bodies was performed by Nuggets orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Steve Traina.

Atkins started having pain in the knee about two weeks ago while playing pick- up games in preparation for the season. An MRI taken Monday revealed the problem and surgery was deemed necessary.

The 34-year-old Atkins averaged 4.7 points in 24 games for the Nuggets last season.... More...

Kenyon Martin returned to practice and his injured right shoulder is doing much better, according to the Rocky Mountain News.

Our View:Martin missed some time last week due to the injury but obviously has plenty of time to work his way back into shape. Martin had a nice comeback season after being limited to just two games in 2006 as he averaged 12.4 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting almost 54% from the field. Expect similar production this season.
Allen Iverson, GMonday 10/6, 7:24 PM CT
Allen Iverson sat out practice on Monday due to a left knee contusion though no one is overly concerned about the injury, according to the Rocky Mountain News.

Our View:Iverson will likely return to practice later in the week. Given that he played almost 42 minutes a game last season, he could certainly benefit from a reduced workload in the preseason so this really isn't anything to be concerned about.

Juwan Howard has signed with the Denver Nuggets, according to the Denver Post. The deal is non-guaranteed for one year at the veteran's minimum.

Our View:Howard played in 50 games last season for Dallas, averaging 7.1 minutes and 1.1 points per contest. Needless to say, he has no fantasy value.
