Lakers coach Jackson misses preseason opener with leg discomfort
Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Los Angeles Lakers head coach Phil Jackson missed the preseason opener against Utah because of minor discomfort in his lower legs.

Kurt Rambis took over the head-coaching duties in Jackson's absence. Jackson didn't make the trip in part to avoid the 90-minute bus ride to the game's site in Anaheim.

It is possible that Lakers rookie Sun Yue could play in the NBA's Developmental League if he does not look ready for the rigors of the NBA, according to the L.A. Times.

Our View:Yue, an import from China, played nine minutes in the team's first exhibition game and scored no points. It will be tough for him to crack the lineup, though the 6-foot-9 guard is very skilled for his size.
Derek Fisher, GSaturday 10/11, 8:49 AM CT
Lakers guard Derek Fisher did not practice with the team on Friday due to a sore knee, according to the L.A. Times.

Our View:The injury is not thought to be serious, and Fisher may have been lucky because Phil Jackson put the team through extensive running drills, at least in part due to their poor performance against the Clippers.
Sasha Vujacic, GFriday 10/10, 9:17 AM CT
A sprained ankle is still bothering Lakers guard Sasha Vujacic, who did not play in the team's exhibition contest on Thursday, according to the L.A. Times.

Our View:Vujacic had an MRI exam Thursday after soreness remained during a practice on Wednesday. The results of the test are not yet known.
