Lakers sign second-round pick Crawford
El Segundo, CA (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Lakers signed second- round draft pick guard Joe Crawford on Wednesday. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not released.

Crawford, 22, started all six games for the Lakers Summer League squad this past July, averaging 11.3 points including .455 (5-of-11) shooting from behind the arc, 2.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 32.7 minutes.

A three-year starter at the University of Kentucky, Crawford finished off his four-year tenure at the school averaging 11.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 127 games (76... More...

Newsbreakers
Kobe Bryant, GSaturday 9/6, 4:26 PM CT
Kobe Bryant will announce the date he plans on having his hand surgery on Monday via kb24.com according to the Orange County Register.

Our View:It is expected to take at least six weeks to fully recover but don't be surprised if Kobe pushes this. He should be ready to go for the Lakers season opener and it's doubtful he will show much rust. Kobe is a virtual lock as a top-3 selection in NBA fantasy circles.
Andrew Bynum, CFriday 9/5, 6:12 PM CT
The AP reports that Andrew Bynum is ready to go. According to the seven-footer,“The knee’s good. Everything’s ready to go, 100 percent. I’ve been training, getting stronger.”

Our View:Bynum was averaging a double-double before his knee gave out on him last season. It will be interesting to see how he adapts to playing with Pau Gasol, but don't expect a decline in production. He is just 20 years old and should continue to blossom into one of the game's most dominating big men. Keep an eye on him in the preseason to confirm his confidence in the knee.
Andrew Bynum, CSaturday 8/30, 9:23 AM CT
As we continue to ponder the potential of the Lakers in the season ahead, team general manager Mitch Kupchak reports he has visited with center Andrew Bynum and is confident he will regain full health in time for training camp, according to the Orange County Register. "Andrew Bynum has dedicated another summer to getting into the best possible shape," Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said. "A month ago he was cleared from the knee surgery he had and at that point he began working on conditioning and getting into shape and I thought he looked like he has made progress. I could see improvement in his body, his conditioning and mobility," Kupchak said. "I didn't see any signs of effects from the surgery."

Our View:There may have been peripheral talks about money as well. Bynum has made comments that should lead to concerns about his view of his contract situation, and Kupchak is sure have those emotions in mind when he visits to talk to Bynum. Getting him healthy is the top priority, but if he continues to progress as his talent dictates, his bank account will demand more attention as well.
