Former Magic guard Arroyo signs with Israeli team
Tel Aviv, Israel (Sports Network) - Carlos Arroyo, who spent the last two seasons with the Orlando Magic, has signed a one-year contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv.

The deal also includes an option for two more years.

"I'm very happy we've completed this signing," Maccabi coach Effi Birnboim told the club's Web site. "Arroyo is a player of the highest standard and has been our top priority for a while. Dwight Howard led Team USA to a 106-57 win over Germany in the Olympics, according to ESPN. Howard scored 22 points with 10 boards in the contest.

Our View:Team USA improves to 5-0 in Beijing. The German team, led by Dirk Nowitzki, has lost four straight.

Shawn Kemp, F

ESPN indicates that Shawn Kemp will come out of retirement to play in Italy.

Our View:Kemp last played in the NBA in 2002-03, and will turn 39 in November. He was previously hoping to make a comeback with the Nuggets this year.

Carlos Arroyo, G

Monday 8/4, 9:54 AM CT

Carlos Arroyo has reportedly signed a contract with Israeli team Maccabi Tel-Aviv, according to ESPN. Sources in Israel said Arroyo will receive an estimated $2.5 million net next season, which is roughly the equivalent of a $5 million NBA salary after taxes, as part of a three-year deal. The contract includes an opt-out provision that will enable Arroyo to return to the NBA after each of the next two seasons if he chooses.

Our View:Arroyo was not expected back in Orlando, and would have served in a limited role if he remained with the team. He only averaged 6.9 points over 20.4 minutes with the Magic over 62 games last season.
