Sixers sign top pick Speights
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia 76ers signed forward Marreese Speights to an undisclosed contract Friday.

Speights, the 16th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, was an early entry candidate following his sophomore season at the University of Florida.

The 20-year-old appeared in 36 games for the Gators in 2007-08, averaging 14.5 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.36 blocks. He also had the ninth-highest field- goal percentage (62.4 percent) in the nation

Andre Iguodala, F

With Elton Brand in the mix and the team looking to make a serious stride towards progress in the Eastern Conference, the Sixers are rumored to be seeking a new contract extension with restricted free agent Andre Iguodala , and an offer may be sitting on the table as we speak, according to Yahoo Sports.

Our View:Sixers' president/general manager Eddie Stefanski met Tuesday in Las Vegas with Rob Pelinka, the agent for Iguodala. Reached via cell phone, Stefanski would not say whether he had tendered an offer for Iguodala, but reports indicate that offer is being considered and the team may have him wrapped early this week. We'll keep you posted.

Marreese Speights, F

The Sixers have inked first-round pick Marreese Speights, according to the AP. Terms of the contract were not disclosed, but he will make $1,285,500 next season and $1,381,900 in 2009-10, according to the NBA rookie pay scale.

Our View:Speights has strong upside while coming out of Florida University as the 16th overall pick in the draft, and is expected to provide solid depth to the Sixers' frontcourt as a rookie. He has potential to play a favorable amount of minutes per game, and could rank as a late-round sleeper for next season.

Samuel Dalembert, C

Samuel Dalembert has been dropped from the Canadian National basketball team just before the Olympics due to "a reported confrontation with a Canadian official," according to Yahoo Sports.

Our View:No details of the incident have been made public, so any further comment would purely be speculative. His loss will certainly be a big negative for a Canadian squad who likely won't be able to replace the 10.5 point and 10.3 rebound averages that Dalembert produced last season for the Sixers.
