The Kansas City Chiefs have released TE Jason Dunn per sources close to the team, according to KansasCity.com. Dunn, who is an 11-year veteran, was utilized primarily as a blocker during his career. From 2005-07, Dunn posted five or less receptions in each season.

Jason Dunn was back at practice on Sunday, the team's official web site reports. Dunn had not practiced since going on injured reserve last December due to a herniated disc in his back.

Jason Dunn hopes he can take the field in about two weeks. “I’m kind of bummed out,” Dunn tells the Kansas City Star. “Everyone is out there going hard, and I can’t be there with them. But I’ve got to be smart, because it’s a situation where you can’t take it too fast or you’ll put yourself back even further.” He has not engaged in any contact since going on IR late last December due to a herniated disc in his back.

Jason Dunn is expected to get more playing time with Tony Gonzalez sidelined, according to the Kansas City Star. "Obviously, Jason’s going to have to come in more as a tight end," coach Herm Edwards said. "We’ll do some things. We’re formulating that today. We’re trying to figure out the best way to get the best personnel on the football field. That’s where we’re huddled up today, trying to work through all that and the personnel groups in how we want to go about playing."
