August 24, 2006 Jerry Rice signed a one-day contract with San Francisco on Thursday so that he could officially retire as a member of the 49ers, according to the AP. "I would like to put the uniform on and run on that football field, but I think it's time to move on," Rice said. "I feel welcome here. I feel like this is my home, and this is something I'll never forget." |

"He will meet with (Shanahan this) morning, and then this will come to some sort of conclusion," agent Jim Steiner said Sunday night. "I have spoken with Jerry (on Sunday) and we'll just wait until he meets with Mike before we say much more." |
