Ex-49er Trent Dilfer reportedly told the congregation at Northside Christian Church in Fresno on Sunday that he's had discussions with Oakland, this according to the Sacramento Bee. How big has the NFL and reporting notes on players become? The fact that Dilfer talked with his friends at a Easter Sunday service and it found its way to the paper speaks volumes.

Trent Dilfer has been released by the 49ers, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat. The team is carrying four quarterbacks right now and he was expendable. Coach Nolan commented, ""Trent Dilfer is a true professional in every meaning of the word," 49ers coach Mike Nolan said. "He is one of the most respected players in the league for good reason. Trent has provided great value to our team over the past two years in terms of his leadership, knowledge of the game and play on the field."

Trent Dilfer will not return to San Francisco next season. The 49ers want him to retire, according to The Press Democrat. That seems to be a logical move, considering the scary concussion Dilfer sustained against the Vikings that ended his season. But Dilfer might choose to seek employment elsewhere, putting his promising TV career on hold for at least another season. The Washington Post reports new Redskins coach Jim Zorn might pursue Dilfer to be the No. 3 quarterback because he knows the offense from their time together in Seattle.
