Newsbreakers
November 30, 2008
The St. Petersburg Times reports Bucs defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin downplayed reports that he would be joining his son, Lane Kiffin, at the University of Tennessee. Monte Kiffin has one year remaining on his two-year contract and responded to the possibility of joining Tennessee by saying, "it's all just speculation."

Our View:Kiffin's loss would be big to the Tampa Bay defense, but it is nothing fantasy owners should be concerned about this season.
November 29, 2008
It is possible that Tampa Bay defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin could join his son, Lane, at the University of Tennessee, and become the team's defensive coordinator, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Our View:Monte Kiffin has accomplished pretty much everything there is to accomplish in the NFL besides being a head coach, and that doesn't seem to be in the making, so he might desire a change at this point in his career.

Derrick Brooks was limited in practice all week by his hamstring injury and is listed as questionable. He has been listed as questionable since suffering the injury in Week 2, but he's yet to sit out a game.

Our View:The veteran earned Defensive Player of the Week honors in Week 4, so we fully expect him to suit up again this weekend. The hamstring could flare up at any time, but for now feel confident in starting Brooks.
October 1, 2008
After the Bucs Week 4 win over the Packers, Derrick Brooks was named the defensive player of the week for the AFC, according to Scout.com.

Our View:Brooks continues to contribute even at the age of 35. Brooks has started in 196 consecutive games, the most by an active defensive player, and has amassed 2,104 career tackles.
September 26, 2008
Derrick Brooks is questionable for the second straight week due to his ailing hamstring, according to the Sports Network.

Our View:The 35-year-old's production has declined in each of the last four seasons, and is nearing the end of his career. He will be a game-time decision for Sunday's battle against Green Bay.
September 19, 2008
Sportsline.com reports that Derrick Brooks is questionable for Sunday's game. He was limited in practice on Thursday and Friday.

Our View:The ageing Brooks is not a good start as a result of this news.
September 18, 2008
The Tampa Tribune believes that Derrick Brooks will start Sunday at Chicago. He is recovering from a strained hamstring and was limited in Thursday's practice.

Our View:He will be a risky fantasy option as his snaps could be limited like last week, but he does have a favorable match-up against the run-oriented Bears' offense.
September 18, 2008
Derrick Brooks missed Wednesday's practice while nursing his strained hamstring, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

Our View:Brooks was able to take the field in Week 2 against Atlanta, but was unable to play the entire game. He will be questionable for Sunday's game at Chicago, which would put him in position to generate favorable numbers against their run-oriented offense, if he is able to suit up and play.
September 14, 2008
Tampa Bay linebacker Derrick Brooks played in Sunday's game, and he said his strained hamstring felt better, according to PewterReport.com. "I feel a lot better then I did after last week. I don't think I did anything to hurt myself. I think I contributed when I was on the field," Brooks remarked.

Our View:Brooks had three tackles on the day, but he did not play the entire game. His days as a top-flight IDP performer are gone, but he is clearly still useful to the Buccaneers defense.
September 14, 2008
Derrick Brooks will test his strained hamstring in pregame warmups today before a decision is made on whether or not he will play, the NFL Network reports.

Our View:Brooks' streak of 193 straight games is seriously on the line, and if we had to bet, the smart money would be on him sitting out.
September 11, 2008
Derrick Brooks did not practice again today due to his stained hamstring. Bucs head coach Jon Gruden, said that it will be a game-time decision on Brooks, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View:Brooks had only three tackles in Week 1 and the Bucs defense will have a tough test this weekend against the Falcons resurgent offense.
September 10, 2008
Tampa linebacker Derrick Brooks did not practice on Wednesday as he is still suffering from a strained hamstring that he obtained Week 1, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View:Brooks may not play in Week 2 when the Bucs take on the Atlanta Falcons. His time as an IDP force is slowly slipping, and his tackles have decreased each of the last four seasons.
September 8, 2008
The status of Derrick Brooks is questionable as of now due to a strained right hamstring, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

Our View:Coach Jon Gruden expects to know more about the extent of Brooks' injury within the next 24 hours. If Brooks cannot go, then Cato June could move to his spot, or Quincy Black could see more playing time.
September 7, 2008
Linebacker Derrick Brooks exited the game against New Orleans during the third quarter after tweaking his hamstring.

Our View:The severity of the injury is uncertain, and Brooks is not expected to return to action today
July 16, 2008
Derrick Brooks will have his playing time reduced in the coming season, but after 14 years the team will not push him to hang up his cleats this season, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View:The report stated that Brooks will be welcomed this season in a reduced role, but the team hopes that he might consider hanging up his cleats after this season, though he still has two years left on his contract. At least he won't be cut loose unceremoniously as former star Simeon Rice was last year.
