Former Jacksonville wide receiver Jimmy Smith has been arrested and charged with DUI, according to Pro Football Talk.

Our View:Greg Larson of 1420 Sports in St. Augustine Fla., and Carla Jones of FirstCoastNews.com are reporting that Smith was booked into the Duval County Jail around 12:30 a.m. Saturday for a DUI arrest before bonding out about 10 hours later. Officers also found marijuana in Smith’s possession; it is not clear whether he also faces drug charges. Smith’s off-field problems include a four-game suspension in 2003 for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.

After 13 seasons in the NFL, Jimmy Smith has decided to retire, according to the AP. The 37-year-old receiver led Jacksonville with 70 catches for 1,023 yards and six touchdowns last season. Smith has a press conference scheduled for later today to announce his decision.

Jimmy Smith revealed Monday that he seriously considered retirement after last season, until receiving greats Tim Brown and Sterling Sharpe talked him out of it, according to the Florida Times-Union. "Instead of retiring, they were telling me I needed to totally disengage myself from football in the offseason,'' said Smith. "They gave me some great advice, and I'm glad I took it." Smith is entering the final year of his contract with the Jaguars.
