Kevin Carter is listed as the starting left defensive end opposite rising star Gaines Adams, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View:He is holding off Greg White, who led the team with eight sacks in 2007. White would still see plenty of action on passing downs, and is a better IDP prospect than Carter, due to his sack potential.

Buccaneers defensive lineman Kevin Carter took some snaps at tight end during practice, according to PewterReport.com. Coach Jon Gruden thinks Carter could be of some value there. "We like to use three tight ends in the game down there by the goal line. We've used an extra offensive tackle, which we have in the playbook, but Kevin Carter has played a long time. He understands pad level. He understands that it's going to be loud around the goal line," he said.

Our View:With tight end Jerramy Stevens suspended for the first two games of the season, Carter may get his chance to play a little bit of offense, though likely only as a blocker.

Kevin Carter met with the Raiders but left Oakland without a deal in place, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The Raiders are looking for some depth after losing Warren Sapp and Chris Clemons this offseason. Carter's expected to continue talks with them next week, so he may eventually work out a deal with the Raiders.

Kevin Carter is en route to Oakland for a meeting with the team, according to Pro Football Talk. Carter, 34, was recently released by Tampa Bay with expectations that he would re-sign with the team; however, the status of the negotiations with the Buccaneers is unclear. The Raiders are thin at defensive end after losing Tyler Brayton in free agency to the Carolina Panthers.
