Mike Martz feels Jon Kitna isn't at fault for the majority of his turnovers, according to the Detroit Free Press. "About 95 percent of it isn't Jon," Martz said Thursday. Kitna has thrown 16 interceptions on the year, including one in each of the last 10 games, and he's also fumbled eight times, losing six. It's gotten to the point that almost any fantasy defense up against the Lions these days is a good play; Kitna has also been sacked 23 times in the last five weeks.

Not only does coach Rod Marinelli plan on sticking with Jon Kitna at quarterback this year, he sees Kitna as the Lions QB next year, as well, according to the Detroit News. Kitna has 3,190 yards this season but has thrown 13 TDs to 16 INTs. "I see Jon as our starter for next year," Marinelli said Monday. "He's going to come in and finish this because he brings everything we want. He's a heck of a quarterback. It wasn't his best game yesterday. But it's an entire unit as I look at it. He's got so much upside to him. We put a tremendous amount of pressure on him, how much we have thrown the ball."

Coach Rod Marinelli said that Jon Kitna will remain the Lions' starting quarterback despite his struggles this past Sunday, according to the Detroit Free Press. "Jon Kitna's our quarterback," Marinelli said Monday. "I believe in him. ... It's not an issue." Kitna has thrown for 2,376 yards this season but has 11 TDs and 11 INTs.
October 8, 2006
After playing well the first few games of the season, Jon Kitna threw three interceptions and lost a fumble in the Lions' loss to the Vikings on Sunday. The Lions are 0-5 and have a new head coach, so Kitna could eventually be the fall guy if things don't turn around.
September 24, 2006
Jon Kitna was quiet in the first two games this year, but he exploded for 342 yards and two TDs in Week 3. Kitna did have an interception on the day.
September 4, 2006
After a vote of players and coaches, Jon Kitna was named one of five team captains for the Lions, according to the team's website. This is further evidence that Kitna should be pretty safe as the starting quarterback this season, so long he plays reasonably well.
July 28, 2006
Coach Rod Marinelli has named Jon Kitna his starter for this season, according to the Detroit Free Press. Kitna was expected to be the starter, but it is a bit surprising that Marinelli has proclaimed him as such this early. Josh McCown will be the backup in Detroit, while Dan Orlovsky will be the third-stringer.
June 1, 2006
All signs to continue to point to Jon Kitna as the starting quarterback for the Lions, according to the Detroit News. Kitna has worked with the first-team offense in all offseason workouts, including the mandatory minicamp that started yesterday.
March 30, 2006
Lions head coach Rod Marinelli announced that Jon Kitna was his No. 1 quarterback heading into spring minicamps. Josh McCown is No. 2 and Dan Orlovsky is No. 3, though Marinelli admitted that the early rankings didn't mean much.
March 15, 2006
Jon Kitna got $3.5 million signing bonus with the Lions, an amount large enough to hint that he should get a shot at beating out Joey Harrington to start, according to the Detroit News. "Coach (Rod) Marinelli said there are no jobs that are secure here," Kitna said.
March 14, 2006
The Lions have reached a tentative agreement with Jon Kitna, according to the AP. Kitna visited the Lions at their practice facility on Saturday and was reportedly "very impressed" with the organization.
March 5, 2006
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Jon Kitna is not likely to re-sign with the Bengals. The Jets are thought to be interested in signing him.
