Newsbreakers
December 2, 2008
Pat Williams will be suspended for the last four games of the regular season, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. He tested positive for water pills, which violate the league's substance abuse policy because they can be used to mask steroid use.

Our View:Williams can return on December 29th if the Vikings make the playoffs. Minnesota currently has a one-game lead over the Bears in the NFC North race.
October 30, 2008
Vikings defensive tackle Pat Williams said he should not be lumped in with the other players who have been named as testing positive for bumetanide, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "My situation is different," Williams said.

Our View:The case concerning the diuretic involves a number of high-profile players, including Kevin Williams and Deuce McAllister. The players are appealing and many seem to think they will not be suspended.
October 26, 2008
Defensive tackle Pat Williams is reportedly on the list of players who tested positive for a banned diuretic, according to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports. Players on this list are supposedly facing four-game suspensions, and more news should be forthcoming early next week.

Our View:Earlier we reported the potential loss of Kevin Williams for four games, and now this. The Vikings run defense would take a major negative hit if both of their starting defensive tackles miss four games down the road.
September 2, 2008
Vikings defensive tackle Pat Williams will be talking a lot of trash while trying to get into the head of Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers' head on Monday, according to ESPN.com. "We'll find out how much he can take," said Williams.

Our View:Williams had just two sacks a year ago, but his ability to eat up blockers is an integral to the Vikings stout defensive line.
August 14, 2008
Vikings defensive tackle Pat Williams really believes his team will beat Green Bay in the season opener, and he wants to make sure Packers running back Ryan Grant does not have a good game, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. First though, he started talking about Aaron Rodgers by saying, "when we go down there it'll be the kid's first start and his first damn loss." He then expounded on his plans for Grant and his 100 yard game versus them last season. "That ain't going to happen Monday night [in the opener]. Trust me it ain't going to happen."

Our View:There's nothing wrong with some good old-fashioned trash talking. And Williams may have a point. While the Packers were going through all of their Brett Favre drama, the Vikings were simply training and working. Stay tuned for any response by Grant or the Packers.
July 29, 2008
The Star Tribune reports that Pat Williams took part in team drills for the first time on Tuesday. He is returning from an offseason surgery on his arm.

Our View:Williams has eased into action while building up strength in his left elbow. He is a very important piece on a dominant defensive line and should be ready to go by Week 1.
June 13, 2008
Pat Williams, who had an offseason procedure performed on his arm, has been cleared to lift weights, this according to the Star Tribune.

Our View:The All Pro nose tackle "is back to building strength again," head coach Brad Childress told the paper. Williams is expected to be ready to compete during Training Camp.
