Brian Griese completed 6-of-7 passes for 134 yards and two touchdowns on Friday night in the preseason opener. Griese out-played Rex Grossman by a good margin, but it's not clear if the door is actually open for Griese to win the starting job.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the Bears were also in serious discussions with the veteran quarterback on Monday, as well. Griese was released by the Bucs earlier this month.

Griese has drawn interest from the Ravens, and the Raiders still need a starter, but it's also possible that Griese will re-sign with the Bucs to back up Chris Simms.

He's owed a $2.6-million roster bonus in March, and his salary cap value will rise to more than $7-million this fall. The Bucs' priority is to sign Chris Simms to a long-term contract.
