Deshea Townsend retains his starting spot at cornerback, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He has held off Bryant McFadden, who will serve in the No. 3 role.

Our View:Townsend has lost time due to a groin injury, but McFadden did not impress the team enough to unseat Townsend as a starter.

Deshea Townsend will not play in the Steelers' next preseason game against the Bills due to a groin injury, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View:Bryant McFadden will replace Townsend in the starting lineup for the game. The injury is not believed to be serious, and Townsend should not be in jeopardy of losing his starting job for 2008.

Deshea Townsend was charged with simple assault on Monday after a weekend incident in which police said he punched another man in the face, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "It's extremely unfortunate he was implicated in this charge," lawyer Bobby Del Greco said of Townsend. "What I can tell from a very preliminary and superficial investigation is that he was not involved in the altercation any way whatsoever, except afterward to try to separate people. He never punched anyone."

Deshea Townsend was upgraded to probable Friday and should be on the field for Sunday's game at Cleveland. He's been dealing with an ankle injury.
