Chad Pennington has been named the Dolphins' starting quarterback for Week 1, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View:Pennington should remain a conservative passer for the run-oriented Dolphins, especially since they lack a true No. 1 receiver. He is only worth drafting as a low-end No. 3 quarterback.

Chad Pennington completed 11-of-15 passes for 94 yards and a touchdown Saturday in the win over Kansas City.

Our View:This was typical Chad, dinking and dunking his way down the field. He has really upgraded the Fins' passing attack.

Chad Pennington made his debut with the Dolphins on Saturday night and completed 5-of-6 passes for 55 yards over three drives. The Dolphins scored a touchdown on the second possession and a field goal on their third drive. Pennington also rushed twice for 18 yards.

Our View:That's the efficient Pennington that the Dolphins are probably hoping to see all season. He isn't dynamic, but it's tough to argue with 10 points over three drives. It was nice to see Chad hit Ted Ginn twice for 39 yards.

Chad Pennington's two-year deal with the Dolphins is worth $7.9 million, according to ProFootballTalkc.com. He will make $4 million in 2008. It’s a $2 million reduction in what he was due to earn from the Jets.

Our View:If the Dolphins find a better option to start in 2009, they could release Pennington next spring.
August 12, 2008
The evidence that Chad Pennington is in fact the starting quarterback for the Dolphins continues to show itself during team practices. John Beck and Josh McCown continue to be bystanders during practice, according to the Orlando Sun-Sentinal. "What I have seen is, I've seen between spring and now, about over 500 throws," Tony Sparano told the paper. "I've seen an awful lot of them. I'm starting to get a pretty good picture one way or the other. I need to see, certainly more Chad Pennington."

Our View:Sparano seems to be playing off Pennington's current status. Coaches in the league knows what they have with Pennington, and a team isn't going to sit their starter on the sidelines during the heat of training camp to evaluate a backup. Pennington is the 'Phins starter Week 1 barring an injury.
