Carson Palmer will be held out for Week 7, with Ryan Fitzpatrick slated to make his third start against the Steelers, according to the Bengals' official website. Coach Marvin Lewis had yet to talk to Palmer since his visit Monday morning in New York with the Mets' team doctor. But he said "a further conservative approach" has been recommended for his inflamed throwing elbow.

Our View:Lewis will talk to Palmer about his options, which seem to range from Palmer playing in two weeks at Houston, or waiting until after the November 9 bye, or potentially shutting it down for the season. Fantasy owners of Palmer should seek insurance.
October 12, 2008
Quarterback Carson Palmer will meet with Dr. David Altchek in New York on Monday. He is hoping to get good news about his strained and inflamed right elbow. "I was told it would get better after about a month or two and every day its gotten better, so thats a good thing," Palmer tells the team's official web site. "Hopefully it got better over the last week. It was my decision to get a second opinion and have someone else look at it other then our doctors. Hopefully they'll have a different opinion and say it looks a lot better and I'll be able to play." He originally suffered the injury on September 21. MRIs have shown no structural damage.

Our View:Palmer may be hoping to return this week, but we feel less optimistic. The Bengals are 0-6 and have no reason to rush him back before he is at or very near 100 percent. We're sure there will be plenty of updates throughout the coming week.
October 12, 2008
Bengals inactives: QB Carson Palmer (3rd), K Shayne Graham, SS Dexter Jackson, LB Corey Mays, WR Andre Caldwell, WR Jerome Simpson, DT John Thornton, DT Jason Shirley.

Our View:Ryan Fitzpatrick is starting at quarterback in place of Carson Palmer, and Dave Rayner is the Bengals' kicker.
October 12, 2008
ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports Carson Palmer (elbow) will be the Bengals' third quarterback and inactive for Sunday's game.

Our View:Ryan Fitzpatrick will start at quarterback with Jordan Palmer as his backup.
October 12, 2008
FOX Sports believes Carson Palmer could lose his starting job if the Bengals don't start winning games.

Our View:Palmer is out today with an inflamed elbow, and the team may opt to keep him out if they fall too far out of the playoff race, to prevent the risk of further injury. This is merely speculation at this point, but Palmer owners should start looking for solid insurance just in case.
October 10, 2008
Carson Palmer will not start this weekend due to an inflamed elbow, according to Bengals.com. Coach Marvin Lewis said it's possible Palmer could be the backup to Ryan Fitzpatrick. "We're trying to get it not a week-to-week thing. We want to get the thing calmed down so it doesn't give him any irritation or problems at all," Lewis said.

Our View:You've got to be really concerned with Palmer. He looked timid last week and clearly this elbow problem isn't going away. Fitzpatrick was not very good in his last start for Pallmer, throwing three interceptions, losing a fumble and accumulating a QB rating of just 44.5
October 10, 2008
Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer has not thrown in their practice Friday, and he was seen with an ice pack wrapped around his right elbow, according to Bengals.com.

Our View:Ryan Fitzpatrick was doing the throwing during drills. Palmer missed one game but came back last week against Dallas and played okay, throwing two touchdowns and an interception while completing 59 percent of his passes. Fantasy owners should monitor his status, as it likely will not be known if he will play until game time.
October 9, 2008
Carson Palmer was once again held out of passing drills Thursday while nursing his ailing right elbow, according to the Bengals' official website.

Our View:Palmer is expected to work more on Friday, which will determine his status for Sunday's game against the Jets.
October 8, 2008
The Bengals' official website indicates that Carson Palmer will throw as little as possible throughout the week in practice.

Our View:He is obviously not recovered from his inflamed right elbow, but is still expected to start Sunday against the Jets.
October 8, 2008
Carson Palmer's inflamed right elbow responded as expected in last week's battle against Dallas, and he is hopeful to play in Week 6 against the Jets, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View:He admitted that he lacked confidence while hindered by the injury, but still performed well in the losing effort against Dallas, and should be considered for fantasy lineups if he starts Sunday.
October 5, 2008
Quarterback Carson Palmer is active and will start this afternoon against Dallas.

Our View:Good news for Palmer owners, though, it might be wise to temper your expectations with him facing a mad Cowboys squad looking to rebound after last week's loss to the Redskins.
October 5, 2008
All pre-game indications at Texas Stadium are that Carson Palmer will return to the starting quarterback job after missing last week's game with an ailing throwing elbow, according to Bengals.com.

Our View:Palmer came out and warmed up in sweats, something he didn't do last week when Ryan Fitzpatrick played against Cleveland. The inactive lists are due out shortly, so we will have the official skinny in a few minutes.
October 5, 2008
Quarterback Carson Palmer is lobbying to play against Dallas, according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN.

Our View:Palmer was limited in practice Wednesday and Thursday, however, he practiced fully on Friday and reports earlier in the week suggested he would start. This is an afternoon game, so we won't know for sure until 3:00 CST, but it appears Palmer will start against Dallas this afternoon.
October 3, 2008
Conflicting John Clayton's earlier report, the Bengals website reports that Carson Palmer should be ready to go on Sunday in Dallas. Coach Marvin Lewis said Palmer threw for all the routes, whether they were short, long or intermediate. "He did well. We'll see how he is in the morning," Lewis said. "If things continue as they have, I think all systems are go." He was listed as questionable in Friday's injury report.

Our View:Palmer has maintained all week that he will be ready to go this Sunday and it appears that he is going to get the start. He should get plenty of work as the Bengals figure to be playing catch up most of the day.
October 2, 2008
John Clayton of ESPN does not believe Carson Palmer will be ready to participate in Sunday's game at Dallas due to his ailing right elbow.

Our View:Clayton suggests that the Bengals may hold him out as they don't want to risk a long-term injury. Palmer intends to play, but the doctors and staff will make a determination on his status Friday. Ryan Fitzpatrick would make another start at quarterback if Palmer is out.
October 2, 2008
Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer threw for a bit on the side during the team's practice, according to Bengals.com.

Our View:Palmer is dealing with an elbow injury, and the fact that he is throwing at all is good news, but it was only from a distance of about 10 yards. It remains unlikely that he will play Week 5.
October 1, 2008
Carson Palmer, who is dealing with inflammation in his right elbow, did not throw passes during Wednesday's practice, according to the Bengals' official website. He is only simulating a throwing motion in drills and said, "Nothing's changed. I'm preparing to play. I'm expecting to play. I'll be a little bit limited in practice, but I'm getting as many reps as I can. It looks like it's going to come down to a decision later in the week. It's definitely getting better. It's progressing day-to-day. I just cross my fingers and keep praying and hope it keeps progressing."

Our View:He is considered questionable for Sunday's battle at Dallas. We will keep you posted on his status.
October 1, 2008
Carson Palmer is backtracking his previous statement that he will play in Week 5, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. He is now saying his status is yet to be determined and he added, "It's a similar situation to last week. We'll see how things play out this week."

Our View:He remains questionable with inflammation in his right elbow. Ryan Fitzpatrick led Chad Johnson to his first touchdown of the season last week, but was not an effective starter while filling in for Palmer.
September 29, 2008
ESPN.com reports that Carson Palmer insists that he will play against the Cowboys in their Week 5 matchup. He will be limited in practice this week by a sore elbow on his passing arm. "I've already made up my mind I'm playing," Palmer said. "I'm going to do what I can in practice and do what they let me do, but I'm 100 percent expecting to play going into this game, and planning on playing. I'll probably be limited in practice, but I'll do what I can."

Our View:He hurt his elbow a week earlier in a loss to the Giants, but stayed in that game and practiced for two days last week despite pain in the elbow. The Bengals decided to sit him out for a game on doctors' advice, giving the elbow time to heal.
September 29, 2008
Carson Palmer will be evaluated this week to determine his status for Week 5 at Dallas, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Coach Marvin Lewis said, "He has an inflamed elbow, and he's better. It was precautionary to not allow him to play Sunday, which went against his wishes, so that we have an opportunity to have him ready to go for next week and beyond. We'll evaluate where he is on Wednesday. It's progressing, but today it was the best thing to do for him long-term."

Our View:It is a good sign that Palmer felt he could have played Sunday. We will keep you posted on his status throughout the week.
September 28, 2008
Updating an earlier report, quarterback Carson Palmer will serve as the Bengals emergency quarterback today against Cleveland, according to Adam Schefter of the NFL Network.

Our View:Ryan Fitzpatrick draws the start in place of Palmer. Definitely a downgrade for the Cincinnati wide receiver corps, as the coaching staff will probably lean on running back Chris Perry this week against Cleveland.
September 28, 2008
The status of quarterback Carson Palmer won't be known until after pre-game warm-ups, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Our View:Palmer (elbow), who is listed as questionable on the official injury report, was limited in practice this week. We expect him to start, but stay tuned for our inactive lists later this morning.
September 26, 2008
Carson Palmer has a sore elbow but it will not preclude him from playing this weekend against the Browns, according to the Bengals Official Website. "Carson has told us he's going to be ready to play, but he developed some carryover soreness from last week's game," said Bengals HC Marvin Lewis. "We are backing him off a little in practice today, so he has to be listed on the [injury] report."

Our View:It has been a rough start to the year for Palmer, both physically and from a production standpoint, but don't look for Palmer to lose his streak of 51-straight starts this weekend.
September 21, 2008
Quarterback Carson Palmer (ankle) is active and will start in Week 3.

Our View:We fully expected Palmer to play, but we simply wanted to verify his status.
September 19, 2008
Carson Palmer fully practiced again on Friday and is probable to play Sunday against the Giants, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. He had been dealing with an ankle injury.

Our View:This is encouraging news for the Bengals' offense, but Palmer is not a favorable fantasy option against the Giants at the Meadowlands. He holds a 37.1 efficiency rating and is yet throw a scoring strike over the first two games.
September 18, 2008
Carson Palmer fully practiced Thursday, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. He has been nursing an ankle ailment.

Our View:Palmer looks to start Sunday but is not a favorable fantasy option against the Giants at the Meadowlands. He holds a 37.1 efficiency rating and is yet throw a scoring strike over the first two games.
September 17, 2008
Carson Palmer was able to practice Wednesday, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. He is dealing with an ankle ailment.

Our View:This is encouraging news, but Palmer and the Bengals' passing attack have failed to leave the hangar in the first two weeks of the season, and he doesn't look to have a solid outing at the Meadowlands against the defending champion Giants.
September 15, 2008
Late in yesterday's loss to the Tennessee Titans, Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer was replaced by backup, Ryan Fitzpatrick. Reports after the game said that Palmer had injured his knee, but today head coach Marvin Lewis said that Palmer sprained his ankle. Even though he came out of the game, Lewis indicated that Palmer would be ok, according to the Bengals official web site.

Our View:Sunday was the second straight terrible start for Palmer. He has yet to throw a touchdown pass and has QB rating of 37.1. If Palmer is your starting QB you might want to start looking for another option.
September 14, 2008
Carson Palmer was removed from the game against Tennessee late in the fourth quarter in favor of Ryan Fitzpatrick. He finished the game with 134 yards no touchdowns and two interceptions.

Our View:Palmer suffered a minor knee injury in the first half but remained in the game. He was ineffective for the second consecutive week. It's officially panic time in Cincinnati after two very disappointing performances in back-to-back weeks.
September 7, 2008
Carson Palmer struggled in his season opener against the Ravens. He completed only 10-of-25 passes for 99 yards, no scores, and one inerception.

Our View:Palmer has had his share of mixed performances against the Ravens in the past, but this was pretty bad. It was the first time Palmer had been on the field with both Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh, and they may not have been on the same page.
September 3, 2008
Carson Palmer will wear a clear shield on his helmet in Week 1 against the Ravens to protect his broken nose, acccording to the Bengals' official website. Palmer sustained the injury 11 days ago against the Saints and said, "It's not as susceptible to being re-broken now that it's had a little over a week to heal. It kind of fit back in all the places where the cartilage needs to grow around."

Our View:Palmer has never worn a shield before, but doesn't believe his vision will be compromised.
August 26, 2008
As we expected, Cincinnati quarterback Carson Palmer will skip the Bengals' last preseason game, resting his broken nose, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Palmer didn't participate in practice again Tuesday, watching while the rest of the team got ready for its game Thursday night in Indianapolis. Palmer broke his nose and cut his lip on a sack Saturday night during a 13-0 loss to New Orleans. Palmer said he probably would have sat out the final preseason game even if he hadn't broken his nose. He expects to be ready for the opener at Baltimore on September 7th.
August 25, 2008
Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer has a broken nose and it is possible he will not play in the team's final preseason game Thursday against the Colts, according to the Cincinnati Inquirer. He will be fine for the season opener September 7, however.

Our View:Palmer had to have a bone in his nose put back in place, but is otherwise fine. Most teams rarely play their starters more than a series or two, if at all, in the final preseason game, so Palmer would not be doing anything out of the ordinary.
August 24, 2008
The Cincinnati Bengals announced passer Carson Palmer, having suffered nose and lip injuries, underwent a brief procedure for treatment on the nose.

Our View:Palmer will be fine and coach Marvin Lewis confirms he will be available to play without missing any time as a result of the procedure.
August 23, 2008
Carson Palmer was sacked three times Saturday, and he had to leave after the final sack because of a bloody nose and a cut lip, according to the AP.

Our View:This shouldn't be anything to worry about, but keep an eye out for updates.
May 14, 2008
Carson Palmer isn't openly bothered by the fact that Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh weren't amongst the receivers he was throwing to on Tuesday. "My frustration level? I'm at zero right now," Palmer tells the Dayton Daily News. "I'm not frustrated at all. I'm happy and excited to be back on the field myself, whether they're here or not. I'm excited to be back with these guys, the guys that are here... We'll get to work whenever they get here."

Our View:Palmer isn't raw enough to fall for what were likely some leading questions about his best two receivers. Fantasy owners should continue to trust Carson as a top option, although his ranking could slip a bit depending on who shows up in the long run.
April 1, 2008
The Cincinnati Bengals gained four additional picks - compensation for free agents lost in 2007 - in the NFL draft later this month, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. The Bengals were awarded with a third-round pick (97th overall), an additional sixth-round pick (207th overall) and two more in the seventh round (244th and 246th overall). The Bengals currently have 10 total selections in the 2008 draft. Prior to the compensatory pick announcement the Bengals had one selection each in Rounds 1 through 6. The Bengals traded their original pick in Round 7 to St. Louis for backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.
