Chris Redman is believed to have the inside track in the race for the No. 2 role at quarterback behind rookie starter Matt Ryan, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View:If Redman holds the primary backup job, then that would leave Joey Harrington and DJ Shockley fighting for the final spot at the position.
August 7, 2008
Chris Redman will start at quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons in their preseason opener against the Jaguars instead of rookie Matt Ryan, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:The preseason is still far from over, and even if Redman does win the starting job, it will not affect fantasy teams any because he has no business being on rosters.
April 29, 2008
Chris Redman is going to open post-draft minicamps as the Falcons' starting quarterback, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Joey Harrington and DJ Shockley will fight for the top backup spot to begin camp as well.

Our View:Redman will lead the offense until prized rookie Matt Ryan is ready to step in. Redman becomes even more unstable as a fantasy prospect now, as he could be unseated by Ryan at any point during the season, especially if he continues to be struggle with inconsistency.

Atlanta general manager Thomas Dimitroff says he has heard from teams interested in moving up to the Falcons' No. 3 overall pick in the 2008 NFL draft, according to NFL.com. Dimitroff, in his first year as general manager, said Monday "Right now there's nothing concrete at all" in talks with teams interested in moving up in the first round. "We've obviously gotten phone calls," Dimitroff said. "I don't want to necessarily mention who they are right now, but there's definitely been some interest."

Our View:The Falcons, only 4-12 in 2007, are believed to be considering several players, including Louisiana State defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey and Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan, with the No. 3 pick.

Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said the way things stand now the organization will keep the No. 3 overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I have not been contacted about a trade," Dimitroff said at the NFL annual meetings. "I would be open to [a trade] but if we see the right player at No. 3, we'll take him and not look back." Dimitroff gave no indication on which player Atlanta would select with the third pick, but Michigan offensive tackle, LSU defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey and Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan are candidates. The Falcons have 11 draft picks - seven in the first 103 selections, four in the top 48.

The Atlanta Falcons have a chance to rebuild their roster and their reputation in the 2008 NFL draft, according to NFL.com. Atlanta and their new general manager Thomas Dimitroff are going to be the busiest team in the league on draft day with 11 draft picks. After being awarded a compensatory third round pick on Monday, the Falcons are now scheduled to have four of the top 48 picks, six of the first 98, and seven of the top 103. The Falcons have needs at quarterback, tight end, offensive line, defensive line and cornerback, so they will need all of those picks to remake the roster.

The Atlanta Falcons have been awarded with an additional third-round pick (98th overall) in the 2008 NFL draft for their free agent losses last season, according to the Sporting News. The Falcons now have the third pick overall, three choices in the second round and two more in the third to utilize in their massive rebuilding effort.

Recent discussions with members of the Atlanta Falcons’ front office suggest their philosophy is to use their first pick (third overall) on a lineman, not a quarterback, according to Pro Football Weekly. Owner Arthur Blank is aware of the tremendous pressure that will be on the player who becomes known as Michael Vick’s replacement, and general manager Thomas Dimitroff subscribes to the philosophy that teams are built from the inside out, starting with the lines. In Joey Harrington, Atlanta has an example of what can happen to a quarterback who is taken early in the first round but fails to live up to the lofty expectations.
February 29, 2008
The Atlanta Falcons have re-signed quarterback Chris Redman to a two-year deal, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Redman appeared in seven games for the Falcons last season, completing 59.7 percent of his passes for 1,079 yards with 10 touchdowns and five interceptions. He played well down the stretch and could compete for the starting job in 2008. The Falcons also have quarterbacks Joey Harrington and D.J. Shockley under contract. The organization could also draft Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan in the first-round of the NFL draft.
February 22, 2008
The Atlanta Falcons will pick third overall in the 2008 NFL Draft after winning a tiebreaker coin-flip, according to the Journal-Constitution. Winning this game of chance means the Oakland Raiders will be awarded the fourth pick, and the Kansas City Chiefs will receive the fifth pick. New general manager Thomas Dimitroff called "tails" in the coin toss with the Oakland Raiders, who, like Atlanta and Kansas City, shared 4-12 records after the 2007 season. Finally, the Falcons win something, but have so many holes to fill that it might be best to move down a few notches for additional picks.
February 14, 2008
Chris Redman played well enough in 2007 to generate the interest of other teams around the league, but Atlanta is expected to attempt to retain his services, according to ajc.com. During Weeks 13-17, Redman averaged 214 passing yards-per-game with 10 touchdowns against five interceptions. Atlanta might have to pay a little more jack than originally expected to keep Redman in the fold, especially considering the status of Joey Harrington and Byron Leftwich, who could both be purged from the roster.
