Thomas Jones carried the ball just 10 times for 37 yards against the Chargers. He also caught two passes for 17 yards, but most people will remember the fumble he lost on this night as his biggest contribution.

Our View:Generally when a team gives up 49 points they don't end up running the ball very often, and on this night the Jets attempted just 13 rushes (Leon Washington had one carry, Brett Favre two). Jones has seen his carry totals shrink from 22 to 17 to 10 in the early going, and he simply needs the ball in his hands more often if he is too be a solid fantasy option each week.

Thomas Jones rushed 22 times for 101 yards and a touchdown in the season opener against the Dolphins.

Our View:Life is already looking up for Jones this year. It took him until Week 13 to score in 2007, and he is already halfway to last year's touchdown total. Granted, the defenses will only get tougher moving forward.

Thomas Jones ran the ball just four times for 11 yards as the Jets beat Cleveland in Thursday's preseason contest.

Our View:Jones didn't see much time, and what fantasy owners want to know is if he can get the job done at the goal line and score more than the one touchdown he rushed for last season.

Thomas Jones has been "reinvigorated" by the Jets additions to the offensive line, according to ESPN.com.

Our View:Fantasy owners surely hope so. Jones disappointed many by rushing for just one touchdown last season. He averaged only 3.6 yards per carry, but that figures to go up as he gets to run behind new guard Alan Faneca.

Thomas Jones is ready to put the frustration of last season behind him, according to the Associated Press. “Last year was a tough year,” Jones said. “I ended up 10th in the league in rushing with over 1,100 yards, but I mean, it was a tough year. We had a young team, and we had some bad breaks."

Our View:Many were clamoring for the Jets to draft Darren McFadden, perhaps because Jones scored only one time last season, but he is clearly the #1 option for the Jets. Jones has been going extremely late in mock drafts to this point, so he might be a fine bargain this season.

The Jets list of draft prospect interviews over the coming week includes Arkansas running back Darren McFadden, Ohio State defensive end/linebacker Vernon Gholston, and Troy cornerback Leodis McKelvin, the New York Daily News reports.

Our View:We mention those three names because they are top-10 picks in many mock drafts. McFadden and Gholston are two players who typically end up in the Jets' lap.

The New York Jets draft strategy has been altered by their frenzied activity in free agency, according to Pro Football Weekly. Prior to attacking the open market, the interior lines appeared to be the greatest need - now the team would prefer to trade down if they can find a willing partner. The team is said to be focused on running back Darren McFadden with the 1.06 pick, but like other teams have concerns about his off-the-field conduct. Another name being bandied about is defensive end Vernon Gholston, who could replace Bryan Thomas and play on the other side of the recently acquired Calvin Pace on the outside. This reflects league consensus, which suggests Gholston projects better on the second level, than as a down lineman.
