After trading for Jets quarterback Brooks Bollinger earlier in the week, the Vikings released Mike McMahon on Saturday, as expected, according to the AP. He started seven games for the Eagles last year and followed offensive coordinator Brad Childress to the Vikings in the offseason when he was hired to replace Mike Tice.

The Vikings continued to add to their backfield on Thursday, signing Mike McMahon to a two-year deal, according to the AP. The contract is worth $2 million and includes a roster bonus of $400,000. McMahon, who went 2-5 as a starter for the Eagles in 2005 after Donovan McNabb was sidelined by a sports hernia injury, will compete for the backup job behind starter Brad Johnson.

Mike McMahon will start Sunday's season finale against the Redskins, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. "I think his mobility has been a big factor in the last six games," Eagles coach Andy Reid said. "I also think that everybody around him, me included, needs to pick up our games. We have to make sure we are running our routes the right way and catching the football."
