Josh McCown has been dealt from the Dolphins to the Panthers, according to Fox Sports.

Our View:More details should be disclosed soon. Carolina needed another quarterback following the injury to Matt Moore.

The Miami Herald states that Josh McCown is on the roster bubble. Chad Henne and Chad Pennington are fighting for the No. 1 and 2 spots at quarterback, meaning McCown is battling John Beck for the final spot on the depth chart.

Our View:Beck remains on the trading block, and McCown may garner interest from another club as well.

It appears the cloudy quaterback scenario in Miami may be clearing, or at least the clues left thus far suggest it is. The Fins have announced Josh McCown , listed as the team's starting quarterback in their early depth chart release, will not appear in the team's first preseason game of the season, according to the Miami Herald. Reports from the Herald indicate coach Tony Sparano has informed John Beck that he will be playing the first and third quarters while rookie Chad Henne will man the second and fourth.

Our View:With Chad Pennington joining this mix and clearly sitting as the favorite to start in the regular season, the Fins need to determine which quarterbacks will stay and which will be moved elsewhere. This could be an opportunity for both Beck and Henne to show they deserve a shot, but one might also wonder if the desire to keep McCown healthy for a potential trade is serving as motivation. Regardless, the Dolphins will learn from the game and will be making decisions based on those performances. Unnamed sources with the team are quoted in the story, indicating Beck is already viewed as the odd man out. Thus the Fins are going to give him one more shot to strut, and if they don't like what they see, he will be moved. Stay tuned.

With the signing of quarterback Chad Pennington to a two-year contract, the tenures of Josh McCown and John Beck in Miami are shaky, according to ESPN.com. The Dolphins will not carry four quarterbacks on their roster, and Chad Henne is safe, leaving McCown or Beck as the choice.

Our View:Beck isn't likely to be released, but a trade is certainly possible. It's more realistic for McCown to get axed, but the team would probably try to trade him first as well.

Josh McCown is listed as the starting quarterback on the Dolphins' first depth chart, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Our View:Coach Tony Sparano noted that the depth chart can change at any time this week, and he listed the quarterbacks by seniority. John Beck is second with rookie Chad Henne third.

Pro Football Weekly reasserts that Josh McCown has taken a considerable lead in the race to become the Dolphins’ starting quarterback. Sources close to the club say he has impressed coach Tony Sparano with the ease with which he’s picked up the nuances of the offensive system. Additionally, he’s been terrific throwing on the run, specifically on rollouts, which the Fins are expecting to utilize often.

Our View:The sooner McCown is named the starter the better. The likely addition of Terry Glenn to a receiving corps of Ernest Willford, Ted Ginn Jr., and Derek Hagan will be a big boost to his fantasy potential. The current strong performances coming from Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown help the cause. However, even at his best, McCown will probably fall into the bottom five or so starting quarterbacks for Week 1.

The Sun-Sentinel reports that Josh McCown is clearly outplaying his younger competitors in the early stages of training camp. However, coach Tony Sparano has not deemed a frontrunner in the race for starting quarterback duties in Miami.

Our View:Sparano did admit that McCown is probably off to a better start than his younger cohorts simply because this is his seventh season and he's been in several different systems. "This isn't a secret but Josh has been in several systems, so it's a little bit easier for him to hear some of the installs and he knows how to handle the installs. It isn't new to him where it's the first time around maybe for Chad as far as getting a bunch of different stuff thrown at him each night."

The Miami Herald and beat writer Armando Salguero are reporting that the Josh McCown right hand injury actually happened two weeks ago. The report notes that Salguero was told the wound is healing nicely and McCown should be ready for the start of training camp practices July 26th.

Our View:The Dolphins are aware of the accident and are not worried about it because they believe it is not serious. The veteran is currently the favorite to begin the season as the 'Phins No. 1 signal-caller.

Josh McCown needed six stitches in his right hand when his brother, Luke, accidentally missed the firewood he was chopping and cut Josh's finger instead, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:It doesn't sound like a serious injury, but it is on his throwing hand. McCown has a good shot to be the starting quarterback in Miami as his competition is rookie Chad Henne and second-year pro John Beck. In any case, he does not hold high value in fantasy football leagues.
June 27, 2008
Josh McCown has emerged as the very early favorite to start at quarterback for Miami, according to ESPN.com. He is competing with John Beck and rookie Chad Henne at the position.

Our View:Considering how terrible Beck was, and the fact that Chad Henne is a rookie (and we all know how rookie quarterbacks usually fare), it would not be a surprise to see McCown win the job. But he would not be a viable fantasy option, based both on the Dolphins offensive personnel and McCown's previous play.

Feedback from a few players is that Josh McCown was the sharpest of the quarterbacks the past month and appears the most ready to play, this according to the Miami Herald. Chad Henne flashed impressive skills but needs seasoning. Sparano would love for a starter to emerge from among McCown, Henne and John Beck by the third preseason game the report noted.

Our View:The competition at quarterback for the Phins will be closely watched in late July and during the teams preseason schedule, but in traditional formats none of the above will be targeted on draft day.
June 11, 2008
A quarterback competition between John Beck, Josh McCown and Chad Henne is already underway in Miami, but coaches predicted at this weekend's minicamp that a starter isn't likely to be named until well into August, according to the Sporting News. Reason being, quarterbacks coach David Lee said a proper evaluation can't be done without watching how the players respond during games.

Our View:Miami opens its preseason Aug. 9. In the meantime, McCown and Beck are splitting most of the repetitions with the first team, with Henne getting occasional work with the starters. It is believed that McCown currently holds a slight advantage in the competition, but Beck provides more upside potential, and has exhibited an outstanding work ethic this offseason.

Josh McCown is excited about competing for the starting quarterback job in Miami this season, according to the Palm Beach Post. McCown said, "As long as the guys in the building tell me it's an open competition, I could care less what fans or media say. At the end of the day, from what I've been told and am experiencing at the facility, it's a three-man race. I have a lot of experience to help me. But it also will help the whole group. I want to play and be the starter, but if someone ends up in front of me, then he'll be pretty good. This is the last chance I'll get to compete like this."

Our View:McCown threw 10 touchdown passes and 11 inteceptions over nine games with Oakland in 2007. He will compete with John Beck and rookie Chad Henne for the starting job. He will benefit from a fresh start in Miami, but isn't likely to make a big impact if he wins the starting gig.

New Orleans head coach Sean Payton believes Tony Sparano is well prepared to be the head coach of the Miami Dolphins, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "The reason he'll do well is because the players will trust what he's trying to tell them, and they'll buy into what he's telling them," Payton said. "His ability to communicate has always been one of his strong suits. He's very honest with them. There's no hidden agendas with him." Plus, Sparano has an advantage; the opportunity to simply walk down the hall to seek Parcells' counsel.” Payton and Sparano worked together as Dallas offensive assistants before Payton left to become the coach of the New Orleans Saints.

NFL owners unanimously approved Wayne Huizenga's sale of 50 percent of the Miami Dolphins to New York real estate billionaire Stephen Ross on Monday at the league meetings, according to ESPN. "This is a bittersweet moment for us," Huizenga said, "but we'll be staying on a little longer. I am pleased that when my time comes to turn it over, that Steve will be a great owner." Huizenga will remain as managing partner of the club for the near future, setting no timetable for when Ross will take command. Ross is spending about $550 million for his share of the team and will have options to buy up to 95 percent of the Dolphins. The Dolphins haven't been to the playoffs since 2001, but Ross was still eager to invest in the franchise, valued last year by Forbes Magazine at $942 million.

Miami Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga indicated Monday that teams do not appear interested in trading for Miami's No. 1 overall draft pick, according to the Miami Herald. Huizenga said the way this draft is evolving, ``the top four or five picks -- a lot of teams aren't willing to spend the money to move up. This is one of those off years where no team really wants to move up.'' The Dolphins would love to move down for additional picks, given the fact they have many holes to fill, but it appears they are stuck in the one hole.

Josh McCown is determined and confident he will be the Dolphins starting QB in 2008, according to the Palm Beach Post. He stated, "I plan to win the job. It's a great opportunity. It's the first time I've had all the details I've looked for in a situation."
February 29, 2008
The Dolphins signed Josh McCown to a two-year, $6.25 million deal Friday, according to the Palm Beach Post. McCown threw for 1,151 yards and 10 TDs with 11 INTs last year in Oakland. As it stands right now, he looks to be the Dolphins starter, with youngster John Beck backing up.
