Our View:The veteran workhorse continues to carry the load for the Redskins and fantasy owners. He may no longer be very explosive, but he is consistently productive and a No. 1 fantasy back.

Redskins running back Clinton Portis accused the Arizona Cardinals of playing dirty in their Week 3 matchup, according to the Washington Post. "They cheap-shotted Randy [Thomas] early on in the game unnecessarily, then they were getting away with some things, you know, the extra pushing. And I think one time Santana got tackled, if you see the guy get up he kneed Santana in the face when he was still on the ground," Portis said.

Our View:Nonetheless, the Redskins got the last laugh, beating Arizona 24-17. Portis had a solid but unspectacular contest, rushing 21 times for 68 yards and a touchdown while also catching two passes for 19 yards.

On Wednesday, Clinton Portis lashed out at coach Jim Zorn's scheme as well as the offensive line's play, according to the Washington Post. He said he wished he "could go to a team for one week with the best offensive line, or the team with the best scheme, and switch places with their back and see how others would do in this system." He also said that he was frustrated with having to dodge "all the people in the backfield, fighting just to get back to the line of scrimmage, and people [are] looking around like, 'Oh, he just missed it.' I'm dodging people getting the handoff, because nobody's really respecting us as a passing team."

Our View:Portis should have kept his mouth shut, but unfortunately he's spot on with his comments. We'll see if his teammates have any sort of response, whether it be verbally or with improved play.

Clinton Portis wants to play in the Redskins final preseason game, though that is traditionally a game when most starters are rested, according to Redskins.com. "Coach, I'm playing against Jacksonville," Portis said to reporters.

Our View:The 'Skins were annihilated 47-3 by the Carolina Panthers in their last preseason game, and many of the starters do not want to end their exhibition season that way. Head coach Jim Zorn said that Portis' wish will come true, as the offensive starters will play one series.

Our View:Portis will watch from the sidelines, which is just fine with fantasy owners who do not want to see their high-round pick get injured.

It turns out that Redskins running back Clinton Portis will play on Saturday against Buffalo, according to the Washington Post. It has been previously reported that Portis would sit that game out. He seemed none too thrilled with the news, saying, "s this [going to be] good? For who? For y'all? For the media? For the public? I guess. But what's good for [No.] 26 is rest. Rest is important. Rest is vital."

Our View:Fantasy owners are likely to agree with Portis, and are just hoping he doesn't get hurt. The chances of that are not great, however, as he will be out there for a very limited number of snaps.

The Washington Post expects head coach Jim Zorn to feature running back Clinton Portis, especially during an opening month that includes all three NFC East road games. An effective Portis would allow quarterback Jason Campbell to become acclimated to the newly installed West Coast offense early in the season.

Our View:Zorn already has said Portis won't have the freedom to take himself out of games this season, which means No. 26 will have to be a workhorse and centerpiece of the offensive scheme.

Our View:His situation has not been disclosed, but Zorn confirmed it is nothing serious, and is more of a "celebration." Regardless of what that means, Portis could miss a few more days.

Our View:Portis has been dealing with some discomfort in his hip, but reportedly this situation has nothing to do with him missing practice time. Stay tuned for more clarification on the matter.

Coach Jim Zorn said that Clinton Portis will no longer be pulling himself out of games as he did while under Joe Gibbs, according to the Washington Post. Zorn said, "I don't think that's something that's going to happen here. That's not the way our offense is designed. I don't think that will be the way that we function on the football field."

Our View:Portis' solid blocking and receiving abilities were not taken advantage of enough under Gibbs, and Zorn plans to utilize him more in those areas in his West Coast offensive system. Portis caught 47 passes in 2007, and that number will surely rise if he stays healthy this season, making him a potentially solid prospect for PPR leagues in 2008.

The question is whether the Redskins have the personnel to be successful in this attack? Quarterback Jason Campbell will have to learn a new offense and how does Clinton Portis and the running game fit in?

Our View:Sherman Smith has the title of offensive coordinator, but Zorn will be calling the plays. Portis should no longer be considered a starting option in traditional formats. Zorn will use backup Ladell Betts' skill as a receiver out of the backfield.

Over the past few months, Clinton Portis did pretty well for himself. He received a $9.32 million signing bonus when he restructured in March, and the Redskins guaranteed his 2008 and 2009 salaries, the Washington Post reports. The club also locked in a sizable chunk of his 2010 pay.

Our View:So you're saying Portis isn't in danger of being cut, huh? Clinton led the NFL with 325 carries in 2007, and we expect the Redskins to continue leaning heavily on him. Whether his body can take it or not is a big question.

After studying Clinton Portis on tape during the offseason, Washington Redskins coach Jim Zorn is preparing the seven-year vet for a bigger role in the offense, according to SI.com. Portis, who finished sixth in the league in rushing with 1,262 yards, is spending his offseason training at the team's complex. "We think that he can be a 1,800-yard back this season," assistant head coach/running backs Stump Mitchell said. Despite the implementation of the West Coast offense, the team will keep their blocking schemes intact and believe that continuity will allow Portis to thrive as their feature back. Furthermore, the Redskins are contemplating expanding Portis' role as a receiver after the vet hauled in a career-high 47 passes last season. "We know that he was productive as a receiver last season, but most of his receptions were of the 'check-down' variety," Mitchell said. "We will see how he runs routes during mini-camps and Organized Team Activities and determine if we can make him a bigger part of the passing game. He is a complete player with an unbelievable set of skills and we must find a way to maximize his talent."

ProFootballTalk.com reported Thursday afternoon that the private plane of Redskins owner Daniel Snyder was on the way to Scottsdale, Arizona. It’s believed that the goal of the flight is to retrieve Arizona resident Jim Fassel, and bring him back to Washington for introduction as the team’s next head coach. Giants' defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo decided to stay with the Super Bowl winners leaving Fassell as the default winner of the long and drawn out search for Joe Gibbs' replacement.

Clinton Portis has a big salary cap number for 2008, but at least one member of the organization believes the club needs to bring him back. "Clinton is a back that this team needs and he should be here," running backs coach Earnest Byner tells the Washington Post. Previous reports placed Portis's cap number at $8.4 million in 2008. The Redskins will likely look to restructure his deal rather than release him and turn to Ladell Betts. However, such a decision could rest on who becomes the new head coach.
