Coach Mike Singletary praised Shaun Hill following Sunday's upset win over the Bills, according to the SF Chronicle. Singletary said, "I'm really excited about Shaun and what he brings to the offense and just to see how he handles what we needs to get done and when it needs to get done." He added that the 49ers are responding to his toughness.

Our View:Hill closed out November with seven touchdown passes over four games, two of which the 49ers won. Hill will be tested in Week 14 against the upstart Jets.
November 23, 2008
Shaun Hill completed 21-of-33 passes for 303 yards with two touchdowns against one interception in the Week 12 loss to Dallas.

Our View:It was the first career 300-yard passing day for Hill, who has thrown two touchdown passes in each of his last three starts.

Shaun Hill has been named the NFC Player of the Week, according to the Associated Press. He fired two scoring strikes and ran for another score on the ground in a winning effort last Sunday against the Rams. He completed 15-of-20 passes for 213 yards, with a perfect 158.3 efficiency rating.

Our View:Most importantly, he helped the 49ers snap a six-game losing streak. He registered a blip on the fantasy radar, but will have a tougher match-up this weekend at Dallas.

Those who took a chance on Shaun Hill this weekend were rewarded, as the signal caller had a terrific fantasy day against the Rams, throwing for 213 yards and two touchdowns while adding another score on the ground.

Our View:With consecutive solid showings, Hill has officially moved onto the radar of fantasy owners.
November 10, 2008
In his first career start, quarterback Shaun Hill threw two touchdowns and two interceptions, while completing 19-of-40 passes for 217 yards. He had two carries for 12 yards and avoided being sacked all night.

Our View:Hill also threw two more interceptions that were returned for touchdowns. Fortunately, both were called back due to penalties. It seems safe to say that Hill will remain the quarterback for San Francisco the rest of the way.

49ers offensive coordinator Mike Martz and head coach Mike Singletary apparently do not see eye-to-eye on playing quarterback Shaun Hill, which could lead to tension, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View:The report even states that it would not be shocking of Martz left the team before the season was over. It seems unlikely that any coach would simply quit before a season has ended, but it is a situation that bears watching. Hill has little fantasy value unless he proves he can run Martz's system effectively.

New starting quarterback Shaun Hill is ready to take over the reigns of the offense that made Kurt Warner and Marc Bulger stars. “I feel like I’m a lot further along than I was in training camp,” Hill said. “Being able to sit back and watch J.T. in the offense helped as well, to kind of see some of those things in action that coach (Mike) Martz was talking about in training camp. These (last) eight weeks, I've continued to learn the offense, and I feel far more advanced in it now than I was back in August," Hill told the AP.

Our View:Hill played the second half of San Francisco’s 34-13 loss to Seattle last weekend. He went 15-of-23 for 173 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions, leading two lengthy drives. Keep an eye on Hill to see if he warrants a backup position.
October 28, 2008
Shaun Hill has been named the 49ers' starting quarterback, according to the Associated Press. The 49ers have a bye this week, so it was a good time to make a change. Hill will make his first start in Week 10 at Arizona.

Our View:New coach Mike Singletary is trying to get the 49ers on track, and his first move is to demote turnover-prone J.T. O'Sullivan from the starting role at quarterback. Hill fared well when called into action last season, and offensive coordinator Mike Martz is fine with the decision to start over O'Sullivan. Hill is worth targeting as a backup fantasy quarterback.
October 27, 2008
While there is no word yet on who will start for the Niners in their next game, a report has surfaced that Shaun Hill's apparent arm injury in camp, the one that allowed J.T. O'Sullivan to take over as the starter, was completely made up, according to Yahoo Sports.

Our View:Apparently OC Mike Martz wanted O'Sullivan to be his guy, so he and since fired HC Mike Nolan conspired to create an injury for Hill. Given the depths that J.T. has fallen to, and with Mike Singletary now leading the club, Hill could end up under center in Week 10. Stay tuned.
October 26, 2008
Shaun Hill completed 15-of-23 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown in the second half of Sunday's game after the 49ers pulled J.T. O'Sullivan at halftime.

Our View:More importantly, Hill didn't turn the ball over. There is no word on who will start in Week 9, but Hill's performance should help his cause.
August 11, 2008
The Santa Rosa Press Democrat indicates that Shaun Hill has not taken a practice snap during 49ers' camp since August 6. JT O'Sullivan worked with the first-team offense Monday, and was not sharp as he completed 10-of-18 passes with two interceptions. Alex Smith worked with the second-team, and fared even worse as he threw three interceptions over 14 attempts.

Our View:With Hill not participating, it appears it is a two-man race for the starting quarterback job between O'Sullivan and Smith.
July 31, 2008
Shaun Hill has been a disappointment in 49ers camp so far and does not look to compete with Alex Smith for the starting job according to ESPN.com. Coaches replaced him with J.T. O'Sullivan at one point because Hill's arm was wearing down, coach Mike Nolan said.

Our View:It looks like the job will go to Alex Smith, primarily out of default.
May 7, 2008
Quarterback Shaun Hill didn't look nearly as sharp as Alex Smith in the San Francisco 49ers recent mini-camp practices, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View:The rumors circulating in the Bay Area suggest this quarterback competition is a dog and pony show, with Smith being the frontrunner for the job. He was the first overall selection in the 2005 draft, and the bottom line is the organization has too much time and money wrapped up in Smith for him to be collecting splinters on the bench.

Shaun Hill, who underwent surgery on his right index finger the first week in January, was expected to require approximately six weeks of recovery time, according to The Press Democrat. The injury isn't considered serious but it did force him to miss the team's final game of the season. The backup quarterback is progressing well in his rehab. Hill is expected to compete with Alex Smith for the starting gig in the Mike Martz offense. The report noted that Hill should be ready to participate in the offseason program, minicamp and OTAs.
February 6, 2008
The 49ers have reached an agreement with quarterback Shaun Hill on a three-year contract, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat. Hill was scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent at the end of February. "It's very exciting to be a Niner for another three years and I appreciate the opportunity they're giving me," Hill said. The deal is believed to be worth approximately $2 million a year with playing-time bonuses that could further compensate Hill if he were to win the starting job. If he's capable of playing anywhere near as well for a long period of time as he did down the stretch last year, Hill could legitimately beat out Alex Smith to be the 49ers' starting quarterback in 2008. He's drawn some comparisons to Rams quarterback Marc Bulger.
January 10, 2008
The 49ers have made a contract offer to quarterback Shaun Hill , who will be unrestricted free agent this offseason. "I'm really excited about [Hill’s] prospects," Bob Lattinville, Hill’s agent, told the San Francisco Chronicle. "I'm glad for all these many years Shaun was paying attention in the film room. The 49ers are kind enough to be moving quickly on this, and that's appreciated. I think it's a conducive environment because both sides like each other. Now, how do we quantify that value?" Expect to see Lattinville and the 49ers quantify a value before Hill can hit the open market. It is becoming increasingly clear that Shaun will have a legitimate chance to win the starting job in training camp.
January 8, 2008
The 49ers are expected to present quarterback Shaun Hill with a multi-year contract offer before the end of the week, according to the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat. "To their credit, they've been great," Bob Lattinville, Hill’s agent, told the paper. "They're getting to work on this early. I'm looking forward to seeing what the 49ers put together."
