Defensive end Greg White suffered an arm injury during the second quarter of the Week 11 game against the Vikings.

Our View:We're not sure of the severity at this point. We'll update his status when more is known.

The Buccaneers recently restructured the contract of defensive end Greg White. He was given a three-year deal before the season opener. The contract is worth over $2.5 million and runs through the 2010 season, the Tampa Tribune reports.

Our View:The former AFL star had a breakout campaign in 2007 and already has 2.5 sacks in 2008. White doesn't make many tackles, but he is a decent low-end IDP talent due to his ability to get after the quarterback.

Greg White is moving back to right defensive end after struggling on the left side, according to the Tampa Tribune. The team hoped he would serve as a solid complement to Gaines Adams (RDE), but he failed to produce from the left side over two preseason games, and will now serve as a backup to Adams and Kevin Carter.

Our View:As long as Adams makes strides in his second season as expected, White's role as a backup should be limited.

Yesterday we reported the Bucs and top sack man from '07 defensive end Greg White were nearing terms on a new contract. Today, we report that deal has been signed, though it is unclear if White has signed the one-year offer made as an exclusive rights free agent or if he has signed a new multiyear contract with Tampa Bay, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

Our View:The term "exclusive rights free agent) applies to players with less than three years of NFL service whose contracts (typically, one year for the minimum salary) have expired. Until the player has three years of service, the team that signed him to his last contract holds the player’s ”exclusive rights” merely by tendering to him an offer equal to the minimum salary for the next year for a player at his level of experience. White had a respectable year in 2007 and thus wanted more than a one-year deal for the minimum. However, with no leverage (other than holding out) to speak of, PFT seems to believe he has likely seen the light of reality and signed the one-year tender.

The Buccaneers are reportedly making progress in contract negotiations with Greg White, according to the Tampa Tribune. White is looking for something more favorable than the one year, $370,000 tender the Bucs have offered him. He and the club have talked about a long-term deal and a shorter term deal.

Our View:White only registered 26 tackles (20 solo) in 2007, but carried his weight with eight sacks and seven forced fumbles. If the team can satisfy him with a new deal, White will serve as a top backup to projected starters Gaines Adams and Marques Douglas this season.
