Rex Grossman is in the midst of battling Kyle Orton for the Bears starting quarterback job, and is progressing nicely, according to ChicagoBears.com. "The biggest thing with Rex that I’ve seen is his focus. He’s been locked in, really keyed in, doing a great job," said offensive coordinator Ron Turner.

Our View:Neither player should be considered much of a fantasy option, regardless of who wins the job.

Coach Lovie Smith noted that Rex Grossman and Kyle Orton are tied in competition for the starting job at quarterback, according to NFL.com. OC Ron Turner added, "I think right now it is highly competitive. They both have done a great job doing what we ask them to do up to this point."

Our View:The winner of the job isn't likely to break the top 20 among fantasy gunslingers, especially following the departures of deep threat Bernard Berrian and reliable vet Muhsin Muhammad.

The Bears may not name a starting quarterback until late in the preseason. Rex Grossman and Kyle Orton are fighting for the job. "Ideally, you would like to have someone in place going into that last week of the preseason, but we’ll just let it play out," head coach Lovie Smith tells the team's official web site. "If it’s not clear by then, we’ll go right up until [the start of the season]."

Our View:The fantasy football world shrugs. On paper, the Bears have arguably the worst-looking pass offense heading into training camp. Grossman feels like the favorite, but the winner of this battle will end up in the 25-30 range amongst fantasy quarterbacks.

Rex Grossman will split work with the first-team with Kyle Orton, according to the Chicago Daily Herald. "I think the No. 1 thing is decision-making," OC Ron Turner said. "Obviously they have to have the physical talent to make all the throws, but decision-making, accuracy and athletic ability (come into play)."

Our View:Grossman would appear to be in the lead at this point, though neither QB does much to get ones fantasy fire burning. Keep an eye on the final decision, though whomever is handed the title of starter is nothing more than a deep QB2 option.

Reports indicate the Chicago Bears are likely to put two undrafted rookie QBs, Nick Hill of Southern Illinois and Caleb Hanie from Colorado State, into battle to compete for the team's QB3 spot on the depth chart, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View:Of course, that could change should Tampa Bay release a veteran arm the Bears find appealing. As we reported earlier this week, the Bears are rumored to be enticed by Chris Simms and may also have interest in Luke McCown and Bruce Gradkowski. The Bucs have a plethora of QBs on the roster and will need to trim at least one or two, at which time the Bears may heavily consider making a move. If that does not fall the way Chicago would like, one of these two undrafted rookies could be the team's NFL project for '08.
