Rex Grossman completed 20 of his 36 pass attempts for 197 yards and a touchdown versus the Lions Sunday before being replaced in the fourth quarter by Brian Griese. The Bears were down when Griese entered, and he took them for the go-ahead score. The television sideline reporter said coach Lovie Smith planned to make the quarterback switch late in the third or early fourth quarter, so expect Grossman to start again in Week 17 before Griese comes in again.

Although Bears coach Lovie Smith has been standing behind Rex Grossman despite the quarterback's struggles, there is at least one sign that Grossman must improve quickly or risk being benched. Brian Griese is receiving half of the snaps in practice, which shows that the Bears clearly are preparing to make a move if Grossman doesn't step up, according to the Sun-Times

Coach Lovie Smith will not remove Rex Grossman from the starting lineup after seeing the QB struggle again Sunday, according to the AP. "We are not making a change. ... Rex didn't play as well as he needed to yesterday. It was a bad game for us, bad game for Rex," Smith said Monday.
December 3, 2006
Rex Grossman was nothing short of abysmal against the Vikings Sunday, completing just 6-of-19 passes for 34 yards, no TDs and three interceptions. Coach Lovie Smith has stood behind Grossman as his starting quarterback, but this performance could convince him to reconsider.
November 28, 2006
Coach Lovie Smith has adamantly defended Rex Grossman, saying that Grossman will remain the team's quarterback despite his inconsistency, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. "I don't believe that," Smith said in response to FOX's Troy Aikman's comment that Grossman was holding the team back. "I definitely don't get into what everybody else thinks. As a football team, we think Rex gives us the best chance to win. He's our starting quarterback and that's all that really matters. Other people's opinions really don't." Grossman threw three interceptions against the Pats Sunday.
November 5, 2006
Rex Grossman had another tough game on Sunday against the Dolphins, completing just 43 percent of his passes for 210 yards, one TD and three INTs. This was the second time in the last three games that he threw at least three picks.

When last we saw Rex Grossman he was turning the ball over six times against the hapless Cardinals. A bye week and a matchup with the 49ers was enough to get Grossman back on track. Although Rex Grossman has no touchdown passes and Brian Griese has three this preseason, Grossman remains the starter for the Bears, according to the Chicago Tribune. Even if Grossman enters the season as the starter, with veteran Griese in the fold, Grossman should have a short leash.
August 12, 2006
If Rex Grossman needs to play well in the preseason to keep his starting job, he got off to a bad start in the opener. Grossman was 3-for-11 for 47 yards, while backup Brian Griese was 6-for-7 for 134 yards and two touchdowns. Grossman also fumbled twice, one of which was returned for a touchdown.
