Byron Leftwich came up big in the second half as the Steelers defeated the Redskins 23-6 on Monday. He was 7-for-10 with 129 yards and a touchdown.

Our View:The Steelers outscored the opposition 13-0 after he took over. His status largely depends on the health of Ben Roethlisberger, who left the game with a sore shoulder.

Byron Leftwich entered Monday night's game against the Redskins to start the second half. His first pass went for nearly 50 yards to Nate Washington.

Our View:Ben Roethlisberger was pulled after a terrible first half performance due to what the team is calling a sore right shoulder.

Byron Leftwich finished up at quarterback in the Steelers Week 1 rout of the Houston Texans. Leftwich was 0-for-4 and recorded two rushes for zero yards.

Our View:After Week 1 it's easy to figure Leftwich's quarterback rating.

With incumbent backup quarterback Charlie Batch on the mend of a broken collar bone, Byron Leftwich has come into the Steelers offense and impressed. According to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette Leftwich might have performed well enough to earn the back up job even after Batch is healthy.

Our View:Even if Leftwich earns the backup role he will have little to no fantasy value.

Byron Leftwich has passed his physical and signed a one-year deal for $645,000, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Coach Mike Tomlin said, "He's been a franchise quarterback for a playoff caliber team. We're fortunate to add a guy like him. He had a great workout. He has a strong arm, he's very lean and he's a smart guy, a been-there, done-that guy."

Our View:The team hopes he can learn enough of the offense to play in Thursday's exhibition game against the Bills. Leftwich is expected to serve as the primary backup behind starter Ben Roethlisberger.

Quarterback Byron Leftwich was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers today, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Our View:Leftwich will be the backup to Ben Roethlisberger as Charlie Batch broke his collarbone and will miss more than a month.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are bringing in quarterback Byron Leftwich for a workout, and he may be signed today, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View:With Charlie Batch having suffered a broken collarbone, the Steelers have no veteran backup, making signing a backup a priority.

Earlier today we reported the Tennessee Titans will be welcoming former Jacksonville and Atlanta passer Byron Leftwich to work out in the days ahead, but updated reports indicate he is not going to be signed to a contract, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

Our View:Instead of offering Leftwich a spot on the roster, the Titans will use these practices to decide if they should add him to a so-called “ready list,” in the event that starter Vince Young suffers injury and the depth at the position falls short. It falls somewhere between the practice squad and having a spot on the sideline, none of which is guaranteed at this point anyway. He'll have to earn just this minor step forward, thus we have no reason to suggest Leftwich is a player to watch.

The Tennessean reports that Byron Leftwich will visit the Tennessee Titans later this week.

Our View:The Titans have been happy with Vince Young and backup Kerry Collins so don't assume this means that they are on the verge of signing him. He threw for 279 yards in three games for the Falcons last season.

Unemployed quarterback Byron Leftwich claims he’s lost 25 pounds in an effort to return to the NFL but that hasn’t been enough for any team to give him a look since his release by Atlanta, according to Pro Football Talk.

Our View:Leftwich has never navigated the full 16-game slate during his five-year career due to various injuries. Given the fact that he isn’t currently on a NFL roster, it appears that most teams have questions about his ability to stay healthy.

Byron Leftwich, who was slowed by an ankle injury last season, has been released by the Atlanta Falcons, according to NFL.com. This is becoming a habit for Leftwich, who was cut by the Jacksonville Jaguars towards the end of training camp last year. This transaction represents quite the fall from grace for the former starter, who has battled injury issues his entire career. At this stage of the game, Leftwich will attempt to catch on with another team, either to compete as a starter or to fill a backup role.
