November 16, 2008
Bryant Johnson led the Niners receivers Sunday, catching four balls for 56 yards and a touchdown.

Our View:This is the first fantasy-relevant day Johnson has had since Week 2.
October 3, 2008
Bryant Johnson is not listed on the 49ers injury report for Week 5. He has been dealing with a sore hamstring for a couple weeks.

Our View:Johnson has 10 catches and a touchdown through four weeks and that production should increase as the 49ers continue to get more comfortable in Mike Martz's offense.
September 28, 2008
Wide receiver Bryant Johnson (hamstring) is active for the Week 4 game against the Saints.

Our View:Johnson is a mildly interesting fantasy play against a porous Saints defense, but we worry that he might be limited.
September 26, 2008
Bryant Johnson is questionable with a hamstring injury, but was able to practice (limited) Friday, according to NFL.com.

Our View:If he is unable to go against the Saints Sunday, rookie Josh Morgan could step up and play a larger role.
September 25, 2008
Bryant Johnson missed practice for the second straight day on Thursday with a sore hamstring, according to the Press Democrat.

Our View:In three games this year Bryant has 151 yards receiving and a touchdown. If his hamstring allows him to play, he might have a good chance to score some points against the Saints.
September 24, 2008
Bryant Johnson missed Wednesday' practice due to a hamstring ailment, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Our View:Johnson is the most physical target in the 49ers' receiving corps, and would have a good shot to post solid numbers in a likely shootout at New Orleans this weekend, if his hamstring allows. We will keep you posted on his status.
September 19, 2008
Pro Football Weekly reports that the 49ers could not be happier with wide receiver Bryant Johnson. Said one team insider: "He has the highest catch rate on the team, he’s got good size and, man, is he physical! He definitely has the potential to be the No. 1 guy."

Our View:Bryant is looking like a strong fantasy play for 2008. We all know OC Mike Martz likes to throw the ball and Johnson is the best target on the team. He has nine catches, 126 yards and a touchdown through two weeks. Expect a strong showing this week against the Detroit Lions.
September 2, 2008
Bryant Johnson is likely to start over Josh Morgan in Week 1 against the Cardinals, according to the Sacramento Bee. The race is still very close, but the source believes Johnson will get the nod as Mike Martz stated, "It's hard with Josh because he's a rookie. The tempo of a regular season and preseason game is substantially different especially to play under that pressure all of a sudden if you're a rookie that's assured. The timing's not really like it was in the preseason because you're panicky. There's that growth process for those guys that you've kind of got to fight through. So to say that Josh is the guy that's going to start excelling at stuff, he's in it obviously but we're really kind of depending on Bryant Johnson to step up now and be healthy and ready to go."

Our View:Morgan is instead supposed to be featured on special teams. Johnson could be a solid option at receiver if he starts, but a lot will depend on the arm of quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan.
August 26, 2008
Bryant Johnson returned to practice Tuesday for the first time since pulling his hamstring back in early August, according to the 49ers' official site. He did all of the individual work and even got some plays in during the 7-on-7 and team periods.

Our View:The Niners have yet to decide whether Johnson or rookie Josh Morgan will start at split end. In Martz's offense, both should see plenty of snaps.
August 26, 2008
Coach Mike Nolan still hasn't decided if Bryant Johnson or rookie Josh Morgan will be the starter at split end, according to the SF Chronicle. Nolan noted that this spot is the toughest call to make in the lineup.

Our View:Johnson has been unable to compete while hindered by a hamstring injury, and Morgan took advantage to display his talent as a deep threat in training camp and the preseason. Johnson would hold more fantasy value as a starter as he is experienced and Morgan needs to learn the ropes, namely in his route running. If Johnson never got injured, this race would be over and he would be penciled into the lineup to start opposite Isaac Bruce for Week 1.
August 25, 2008
Bryant Johnson hasn't played in the preseason yet due to a hamstring injury, and may not start in Week 1 against the Cardinals (his former team), according to the SF Chronicle. Coach Mike Nolan said, "If he hasn't played in the preseason, it would be hard to start him."

Our View:Johnson is still worth drafting as a sleeper, and should emerge as a starter once he gets up to speed. As of now, he is considered questionable for the August 29 preseason finale against the Chargers.
August 6, 2008
Bryant Johnson sat out Wednesday to nurse his hamstring ailment, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Our View:The injury is not believed to be serious, and the team considers him day-to-day.
July 5, 2008
Several insiders believe that Bryant Johnson and not Issac Bruce will end up being the teams top wide receiver this year, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Our View:Bruce is obviously nearing the end of his career, and Johnson is only working on a 1-year deal as he attempts to prove his worth in order to sign a big money deal. Time will tell, but Johnson does appear primed for a career best season.
March 14, 2008
Bryant Johnson has agreed to sign a one-year contract with the Niners, according to ESPN.com. If he's able to win a starting role, Johnson could have some decent value in Mike Martz's offense next season.
March 13, 2008
Joel Segal, the agent for free-agent wide receiver Bryant Johnson, said last night that he’s in negotiations with three teams, and anticipates having a deal done by the weekend, according to FOX Sports. Buffalo, Tampa Bay and Washington are thought to be the three teams in the running for Johnson’s services.
March 13, 2008
Bryant Johnson , the Cardinals No. 3 receiver, is "unlikely" to return to the club, according to the East Valley Tribune. Joel Segal, Johnson's agent, said he is negotiating with three teams and indicated he hopes to have a deal done by Friday. Steve Breaston, a kick returner and reserve receiver last season, could be a candidate for the Cardinals' next No. 3 receiver behind Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin.
March 12, 2008
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers still have a shot at landing free agent wide receivers Bryant Johnson and Drew Carter, according to the Tampa Tribune. "We're going to take the next couple days and go over the offers we have and take it from there," said Joel Segal, the agent for Johnson and Carter, both of whom are considering Tampa Bay as a destination. The Buccaneers recently signed Antonio Bryant, but there are question marks surrounding him after sitting out an entire season last year. Johnson has competed in the shadow of Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin in Arizona, while Carter has been a career underachiever, who has the ability to stretch defenses with his speed.
March 11, 2008
The Tennessee Titans have had preliminary conversations with agent Joel Segal, who represents receiver Bryant Johnson, according to the Tennessean. Currently, there are no plans to bring Johnson in for a visit, but he is clearly one of the best receivers remaining on the open market. For awhile it looked like Johnson would sign in Buffalo, but it appears he’s expecting a substantial deal before signing on the dotted line.
March 4, 2008
Bryant Johnson enjoyed his visit with Buffalo yesterday, and though he has visits scheduled with other teams including Washington, he wouldn’t mind if his travel plans were canceled to sign with the organization, according to the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle. "I definitely think I fit in good with the Bills," Johnson said. "Hopefully I won't have to take any more visits after I leave here. My agent is going to talk with them (the Bills) and hopefully we can work something out and make both of us happy." Sounds like Johnson is ready to sign if the Bills organization is ready to step up to the plate with an offer. The team definitely has a need for a receiver upgrade on the other side of Lee Evans.
March 3, 2008
Bryant Johnson is currently in Buffalo, but has a visit scheduled with the Washington Redskins, according to BuffaloBills.com. Johnson is definitely interested in the Bills as a potential employer given the fact the organization has a wide open wide receiver slot available on the other side of Lee Evans. He’s also familiar with the Bills’ wide receivers coach, Tyke Tolbert, who filled the same position in Arizona during Johnson’s rookie campaign. If Buffalo wants Johnson, they might not want to let him get out of town without a contract, as Washington has a bad habit of overpaying players on the open market.
March 3, 2008
Bryant Johnson is expected to visit with the Chicago Bears this week, according to Fan Nation. Chicago recently lost wide receiver Bernard Berrian to the Minnesota Vikings, and are in desperate need of help at the position. In five seasons with Arizona, Johnson has started 39 games – compiling 210 receptions, 2,675 yards and nine touchdowns.
March 1, 2008
Bryant Johnson is in Buffalo Saturday to meet with the Bills about possibly signing as a free agent. However, if he leaves Buffalo without a deal, he may head to Tampa next to talk with the Bucs, who also are interested in his services, according to the Tampa Tribune. The Bears are also on the list of teams who want to talk with the wide receiver. If he lands in the right spot and can start, he could have some sleeper value in 2008.
February 29, 2008
The Bears hope to bring Bryant Johnson in for a visit next week, according to the Chicago Tribune. He's a free agent and not expected to re-sign with the Cardinals. The Bears are looking to fill out their receiving corps now that Muhsin Muhammad is gone and Bernard Berrian halfway out the door.
February 8, 2008
The Cardinals may move on without Bryant Johnson this offseason, as he will become a free agent at the end of the month, according to the East Valley Tribune. The Cards are deep at receiver and are trying to find some salary-cap flexibility, so Johnson could be expendable.
