Newsbreakers
October 12, 2008
Justin Fargas had only 10 carries for 35 yards in his return from a groin injury on Sunday.

Our View:The Raiders were playing from behind for most of the game, so Fargas didn't get a chance to make a big impact.
October 12, 2008
Raiders inactives: QB Marques Tuiasosopo (3rd), WR Todd Watkins, DB Rashad Baker, DE Derrick Burgess, T James Marten, C John Wade, TE Ben Troupe. TE John Madsen.

Our View:Justin Fargas (groin) will start at running back, while Darren McFadden (toe) is also active and will back him up.
October 10, 2008
Justin Fargas fully practiced without restrictions Friday, according to the Oakland Tribune. He had been dealing with a groin injury.

Our View:Rookie Darren McFadden was limited due to his toe injury, but acting head coach Tom Cable believes he will play, and intends to cycle him and Fargas Sunday against the Saints' 16th ranked run defense. Fargas is likely to start and is the preferred fantasy back among the pair.
October 9, 2008
Justin Fargas practiced at full-speed Wednesday, according to the SF Chronicle. This marks the first time he did so in three weeks due to a groin injury.

Our View:Fargas looks to be ready to play this weekend in a favorable match-up against the Saints.
October 6, 2008
Justin Fargas, who has been dealing with a groin injury, returned to practice Monday, according to the Oakland Tribune.

Our View:He is expected to return to battle in Week 6 at New Orleans, but will be a risky fantasy option despite the favorable match-up, as his role and workload will be in question under new head coach Tom Cable.
October 4, 2008
Justin Fargas was held out of Wednesday's and Thursday's practices, but he is expected to play in Week 6 after the team's Week 5 bye, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View:It's not clear whether Fargas or Darren McFadden will get the starting nod in Week 6, but we would lean towards Fargas.
October 1, 2008
Justin Fargas did not participate in Wednesday's practice with a groin injury that has kept him out for two weeks, according to the Contra Costa Times.

Our View:The Raiders have said that they expect Fargas to be back on the field next week.
September 30, 2008
Coach Lane Kiffin stated that he expects Justin Fargas back by next week after missing the last two games with a groin injury, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View:Rookie Darren McFadden and Michael Bush have performed well in Fargas' absence, but he should remain an active part of the offense upon his return. He is averaging 5.2 yards over 27 carries. The Raiders have a bye in Week 5.
September 28, 2008
Week 4 inactives: QB Marques Tuiasosopo (3rd), WR Todd Watkins, RB Justin Fargas, CB Stanford Routt, G Cooper Carlisle, T James Marten, T Seth Wand, TE Ben Troupe.

Our View:Fargas continues to be out due to the groin injury, while Darren McFadden is active despite being limited in practice this week with a toe injury.
September 27, 2008
Oakland running back Justin Fargas will remain the team's starter at running back when he gets healthy, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View:Fargas has only played in two games, but he's played well, rushing for 5.2 yards per carry on 27 rushes. He will not play Week 4, but his status after that is up in the air.
September 26, 2008
Justin Fargas has been ruled out for Week 4 due to his sore groin, according to NFL.com.

Our View:The Raiders have a bye in Week 5, giving Fargas more time to rest. He is averaging 5.2 yards over 27 rushing attempts this season, and shall remain stashed on fantasy rosters.
September 26, 2008
Justin Fargas hasn't officially been ruled out of action in Week 4 because of his sore groin, but he is almost 100 percent certain to miss the game, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View:Fargas hasn't practiced in two weeks and, to be honest, he hasn't even attempted to run since being injured. He isn't playing this weekend even if the club hasn't announced it, and given the ongoing injury woes with Darren McFadden, Michael Bush is the lone healthy back on the club this week.
September 24, 2008
The Sacramento Bee reports that Justin Fargas did not practice on Wednesday and is unlikely to play in Week 4. He is nursing a sore groin.

Our View:Fargas entered the year as the number one back on the Raiders' depth chart and when he returns, it is likely he will still split carries with Darren McFadden. After a game and a half of action this season, he has 140 yards and a 5.2 YPC average.
September 21, 2008
Week 3 inactives: QB Marques Tuiasosopo(3rd), WR Todd Watkins, RB Justin Fargas, CB Chris Johnson, C John Wade, OT Seth Wand, OT Kwame Harris, and TE Ben Troupe.

Our View:We noted earlier in the day that Fargas would be out, so this list is as expected. Darren McFadden (toe) and Javon Walker (hamstring) are both active.
September 21, 2008
Running back Justin Fargas (groin) will not play in Week 3, according to ESPN's John Clayton.

Our View:This news shouldn't come as a surprise, as we spent the week assuming Fargas would be out. Darren McFadden (toe) is likely to play but is hurting. Michael Bush may have a big role against the Bills.
September 18, 2008
Justin Fargas missed another practice Thursday due to his groin injury, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Our View:It is looking more likely he will miss Week 3, but at least rookie Darren McFadden (turf toe) is practicing today.
September 17, 2008
The Contra Costa Times suspects Justin Fargas will miss the next two weeks of action due to a strained groin.

Our View:It was written in speculative fashion. But Fargas seemed to rule out this week for sure. "Playing this week isn’t likely, but I’m not going to put a time or date on it," Fargas said. "I’ll be back as soon as possible."
September 17, 2008
Justin Fargas did not practice on Wednesday due to a strained groin according to the Contra Costa Times. The results of his Monday MRI are not yet known.

Our View:Groin industries tend to linger and this one will likely keep Fargas from making a big impact, if any, in Week 3 against Buffalo. Darren McFadden also missed practice with turf toe so Michael Bush could get the start. No matter who it is, they could struggle against a stout Bills defense at home.
September 15, 2008
Justin Fargas underwent an MRI on his injured groin on Monday, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Our View:The results of the MRI will not be available until Wednesday and the injury looked serious when Fargas was carted off the field.
September 14, 2008
Running back Justin Fargas left the game against Kansas City in the second quarter with a groin injury.

Our View:Fargas, who posted nine carries for 43 yards, came up lame after running a pass pattern. No word on his possible return, but it looked bad enough that we would be surprised if he returned to action. An extended injury would obviously boost the fantasy stock of rookie Darren McFadden, and might even make Michael Bush a threat at the stripe in basic scoring leagues.
August 21, 2008
Justin Fargas remains the Raiders' starting running back on the depth chart, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View:He didn't play much in the preseason but continues to hold the No. 1 spot ahead of prized rookie Darren McFadden. McFadden could be more involved in the passing game this season, and should easily lead all Raiders' running backs in receptions. Fargas still holds favorable fantasy value, after breaking out with 1,009 rushing yards in 2007. He should help fantasy owners this season, especially during the stretch run if McFadden wears down and "hits the rookie wall."
February 13, 2008
According to Rototimes.com sources, Justin Fargas re-signed with the Oakland Raiders to remain with the club that he rushed for 1009 yards for in 2007. Details of the contract have not yet been confirmed. Fargas started the year as a backup to LaMont Jordan, but around mid-season he established himself as the team's lead back. It was thought that his performance might have priced him out of the Raiders pay scale, but apparently the two sides were able to come to a financial agreement that satisfied both parties. This could spell the end to Jordan's tenure in Oakland.
