Shaun McDonald is the No. 3 receiver for the Lions, according to MLive.com.

Our View:McDonald will be the first receiver to enter the game in the slot, but the source believes that Mike Furrey would get the nod if starters Roy Williams or Calvin Johnson suffered an injury.

Shaun McDonald has been removed from the PUP list, according to MLive.com. He has been recovering from right knee surgery.

Our View:He has a lot of work ahead of him as he tries to nail down the slot role in the Lions' aerial attack. Mike Furrey and Kenneth Moore are his top competition for the job. If he does manage to win the slot role, he isn't likely going to challenge 79 receptions again with O.C. Mike Martz no longer running the offense in Detroit.

The Detroit Free Press indicates that the Lions are expected to remove Shaun McDonald from the PUP list Monday. He has been recovering from right knee surgery.

Our View:He will have a lot of work ahead of him as he tries to nail down the slot role in the Lions' aerial attack. Mike Furrey and Kenneth Moore are his top competition for the job. If he does manage to hold onto the slot role, he isn't likely going to challenge 79 receptions again with O.C. Mike Martz no longer calling the shots.

Shaun McDonald, who is recovering from right knee surgery, is not expected back until the Lions' third preseason game, according to MLive.com.

Our View:McDonald will be hard-pressed to challenge his numbers from 2007 (79 receptions for 943 yards) with Mike Martz out of the mix as offensive coordinator. He is also in jeopardy of losing his slot role, with Mike Furrey and Kenneth Moore the top competitors for the job. He should be avoided in fantasy drafts.

Shaun McDonald will begin training camp on the PUP list. He had his knee scoped earlier this summer, but rumors persist that he underwent reconstructive surgery.

Our View:McDonald was already looking at reduced playing time now that Mike Martz has left town, but this figures to make him irrelevant throughout the first few weeks of the season. Avoid him in your drafts.

Shaun McDonald will reportedly have a smaller role in the Lions' aerial attack this season under new offensive coordinator Jim Colletto, according to the Detroit Free Press. Mike Martz has left town to join San Francisco and McDonald stated, "I don't think Mike Furrey and myself will be as much of a focal point as we were in that offense (under coordinator Martz). But I can definitely see where I'm going to fit in there and see some of the routes that they've got. It's going to be a good year, I think." Furrey and McDonald will have smaller roles but still significant ones, according to Colletto. Three- and four-wide receiver sets remain in the playbook, and Colletto added, "All that part of the game is still there. It's just the numbers of plays are going to be diminished greatly. Those two guys are still going to figure in what we're doing. We want to be able to change constantly."

Our View:Colletto has simplified the playbook and plans to run more than Martz did. He also plans to throw to his big outside targets, Roy Williams and Calvin Johnson. Colletto also plans shorter drops for his quarterbacks, meaning the ball could come out quickly to the slot receiver. With that said, McDonald still thinks the slot will remain a factor for the Lions game. McDonald led the Lions with 79 receptions in 2007, with 943 yards and six scores, but his numbers could potentially take a hit in 2008.

Wide receiver Shaun McDonald had knee surgery after the season and has been rehabbing in Arizona while the Detroit Lions have been going through their off-season conditioning program, according to the Detroit Free Press. Head coach Rod Marinelli said McDonald should be in Detroit this week. "When he comes in, hopefully we'll have a chance to recheck him," Marinelli said.

Our View:McDonald led the team in several receiving categories last year, but with the Lions expected to use less multiple receiver sets this year, he could see his fantasy value decline significantly.

Shaun McDonald is reportedly on the trading block, according to a report in the Sun-Times. The Detroit Lions appear to be shopping McDonald, who led the team in receptions (79), yards (943) and receiving touchdowns (6) during the 2007 season. With Mike Martz now the offensive coordinator in San Francisco, the Lions offense will likely use less multiple receiver sets, making McDonald expendable. Speaking of San Francisco, McDonald is very familiar with Martz’s scheme, which could make him a candidate to land in the city by the bay.
