After being released by the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Jerome McDougle has been signed by the New York Giants, according to PhiladelphiaEagles.com.

Our View:Mcdougle was injured and missed all of last season with a triceps injury, but the injury to Osi Umenyiora means the team had a need for depth at defensive end.

Jerome McDougle has a "significant" right triceps injury, head coach Andy Reid tells the team's official web site. He could miss the entire 2007 season, but the coach plans to update his status in the near future.

On Monday, Jerome McDougle underwent emergency surgery to correct an internal hernia due to adhesions and scar tissue from his previous surgery for his gunshot wound, according to the AP. He was shot in late July. It does not appear that he will return this season. "It's an unfortunate setback for Jerome," Eagles coach Andy Reid said. "It's a shame because he's worked extremely hard over the past several weeks to return to the practice field. After today's events, that obviously won't happen anytime soon. We wish him all the best in his recovery from this surgery."

Jerome McDougle returned to the Eagles' training facility on Monday after he was shot in the stomach a month ago in his hometown of Miami after four teenagers approached him in his car and stole his $20,000 watch, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. The Eagles believe that McDougle can play at some point this year.

Jerome McDougle is expected to be released from the hospital within a week after being shot in the stomach late Thursday, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. He will not take part in football activities for at least 4-6 weeks, though he hopes to return to action this season.
