Tyler Brayton is the leading candidate to start at right defensive end opposite stud Julius Peppers this season, according to Pro Football Weekly. He is ahead of Stanley McClover and Charles Johnson.

Our View:Brayton holds an edge in experience and versatility, as he can move inside to provide a pass rush up the middle on third down. There is still a long way to go before now and the regular season opener against the Chargers, and McClover and Johnson could still win the starting spot over Brayton, who was a bust with the Raiders.

Tyler Brayton is still working as the starter at right defensive end opposite Julius Peppers, according to CarolinaGrowl.com.

Our View:Brayton was a bust with the Raiders and the team was not able to develop him as an end or as an outside linebacker. Charles Johnson or Stanley McClover still have plenty of time to win the starting spot over Brayton.

Defensive end Tyler Brayton worked with the starters on the left side during the first day of the Carolina Panthers weekend minicamp, according to the Rock Hill Herald. Defensive end Julius Peppers lined up on the right side, replacing Mike Rucker there.

Our View:Brayton came over from Oakland, where the team experimented with him at outside linebacker. He’s more comfortable with his hand on the ground in a three-point stance, and could be a sleeper candidate on the opposite side of Peppers, who will be doubled on the regular.

The Panthers and Tyler Brayton agreed to terms on a two-year deal on Tuesday, the Charlotte Observer reports. The 2003 first-round pick will rotate in at right end and could move inside on passing downs. He has six sacks over his five-year career.

The Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers are competing to sign defensive end Tyler Brayton, according to the Indianapolis Star. Brayton reportedly visited Carolina during the weekend, and met with Indianapolis yesterday. "Both are attractive options,'' said Tom Mills, Brayton's agent. "The Colts obviously are very appealing to Tyler.'' Brayton would stand a better chance of starting in Carolina. The Panthers could release Mike Rucker, and the players behind him on the depth chart (Charles Johnson and Stanley McClover) are both inexperienced.
