The Texans have signed Chaun Thompson to a two-year contract, according to the Houston Chronicle. "The opportunity the Texans are giving me was too good to pass up," Thompson said. "They're giving me a chance to compete, play ball and have fun." He'll make $2.4 million, including $650,000 up front, in the new deal and will battle Zac Diles and Kevin Bentley for a starting job at strong-side linebacker.

The Houston Texans have turned their attention to Cleveland free agent linebacker Chaun Thompson after losing Danny Clark to the New York Giants, according to The Houston Chronicle. Thompson, 27, spent the last five seasons with Cleveland, where was a reserve the last two seasons after starting the previous two years. If signed, he would compete with Zac Diles and Kevin Bentley for the strong-side role in Houston.

The Cleveland Browns have begun negotiating with linebacker Chaun Thompson, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The contract, which is thought to be a two-year deal, should be completed in the very near future. Thompson, a second-round draft pick by the Browns in 2003, is expected to be a role player on defense and a key special teams contributor.

Chaun Thompson, who missed the first two games with a pulled calf muscle, is expected to start on Saturday in Buffalo in place of rookie D'Qwell Jackson, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. It will be Thompson's first look in his new role at inside linebacker. "There's a good chance he'll start since he hasn't played much," said coach Romeo Crennel. "We need to play him."
