Scott Shanle is projected to start at weak-side linebacker this season following the retirement of the often-injured Dan Morgan, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Our View:Shanle is expected to win the job, but will compete with Mark Simoneau, Troy Evans, and Marvin Mitchell. Shanle led the Saints with 77 solo tackles back in 2006, and his fantasy stock will be back on the rise if he holds on to the starting spot on the weak-side. He would potentially hold solid value as a mid-to-late round pick as an IDP in 2008.

The Saints inked Scott Shanle to a four-year deal on Friday, according to the AP. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. "Making sure Scott returned to our team was one of our priorities entering the offseason," New Orleans general manager Mickey Loomis said. "He was a major part of our improvement on defense last season and a player who is an integral part of the group we want to build around. This is a really positive way to get 2007 started." He led the Saints with 77 solo tackles in 2006.

The Cowboys traded Scott Shanle to the Saints Wednesday in exchange for an undisclosed pick in the 2007 draft choice. Shanle finished with 45 tackles and 1 1/2 sacks last season.
