The Chargers revealed that linebacker Matt Wilhelm suffered a slight ankle sprain during battle with the Panthers in Week 1, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View:We will keep you posted on his status. Wilhelm was a pleasant surprise in 2007 with 97 tackles (74 solo) over 14 games, and registered six tackles (three solo) Sunday against Carolina.

Matt Wilhelm practiced fully on Wednesday and Thursday and is expected to start against the Broncos, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Wilhelm injured his calf in Week 2 against the Patriots.

Matt Wilhelm played on Thursday night. It was his first game action on the preseason. He has been out due to a sore calf. "Wilhelm was good and he felt good about what he did," head coach Norv Turner tells the North County Times. "He just needed to get out and play and be with the guys. It was good for him."

Matt Wilhelm did not play in the preseason opener on Sunday and probably won't also be ready for Saturday's contest against the Rams, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Wilhelm is dealing with a strained calf. He suffered the injury last Thursday.

Matt Wilhelm will miss the Chargers' preseason game on Sunday due to a strained right calf. He sustained the injury in practice on Thursday, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. The club hopes he'll miss just a week or two, but more will be known onces he's examined further in a few days. Tim Dobbins will fill in until Wilhelm is ready to resume his starting linebacker role.
