Ben Roethlisberger is pleased with the Steelers' 2008 draft, and they notably granted his request to add a big and tall receiver (Limas Sweed of Texas), according to ProFootballTalk. He said, "I like the draft, we did a good job all around."

Our View:Hines Ward cannot be pleased with the addition of Sweed, but he is big (6-4 212) and fast (ran 40 in 4.55) and will provide Roethlisberger with the big receiver he has been asking for. Big Ben broke out with 3154 passing yards and 32 touchdowns in 2007, and he still has room to improve on those numbers. Sweed should make an impact as a fantasy rookie as well, and will be a good prospect to target in keeper leagues.

The Steelers are looking to move down in the upcoming draft. In fact, the club may trade right out of the first round, director of football operations Kevin Colbert tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. The team believes the second round will be deep with talent. Colbert says the Steelers would consider anything but a quarterback or a tight end with the No. 23 pick.

Our View:The Steelers may be looking to do what the Eagles did in 2007, when Andy Reid dealt the 26th pick for a choices in the second (36), third (87), and fifth (159) rounds. Or maybe the Steelers are just blowing smoke screens and actually want to trade up for an offensive or defensive lineman.

Pittsburgh Steelers owner Dan Rooney isn't lobbying, but he believes the day will come when teams will play 17-game regular seasons and three-game exhibition seasons, according to the Rocky Mountain News. "If we went to 17 games, one of those would be in a different place," Rooney said. The 17th game for each team would likely be at a neutral site, perhaps even an international affair.

The numbers have been released, and Ben Roethlisberger is quite rich. The Steelers and the quarterback have agreed to an eight-year, $102 million deal. It includes more than $36 million in guarantees, ESPN.com reports. Roethlisberger is the sixth quarterback to receive a $100 million deal.

The agents for Ben Roethlisberger are expected to arrive in Pittsburgh on Sunday to meet with Steelers officials in an attempt to nail down a contract extension, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Big Ben still has two years left on his current deal, but the Steelers want to lock him up for the long term. It sounds like a deal could be in place soon.

Ben Roethlisberger, who has two-years remaining on his current deal, is negotiating with the Pittsburgh Steelers on a long-term contract extension, according to the Post-Gazette. Steelers’ director of football operations, Kevin Colbert, said an extension is likely to happen sooner, rather than later. "We are moving along. It is something that is progressing very well and we'd like to be able to finalize it," Colbert said. "But it is a big deal for him and a big deal for us. But all signs are positive that we are going to get it done." The Steelers would be wise to nail down Roethlisberger, who has already led them to one Super Bowl title. Last year, Big Ben completed 65.4% of his pass attempts and threw 32 touchdowns against only 11 interceptions, posting the best season of his career.

The Steelers this week will open contract talks with some of their players who can become unrestricted free agents and one who cannot -- quarterback Ben Roethlisberger , according to a report in the Post Gazette. Roethlisberger has two years left on the contract he signed as a rookie in 2004, but both sides have expressed a desire to reach a contract extension this year. Getting a contract extension and getting one quickly was one of three wishes Roethlisberger said he had for the offseason.

Ben Roethlisberger contributed little in yardage in Sunday's AFC loss in the Pro Bowl, but did manage to find T.J. Houshmandzadeh for a one yard score in the second quarter. Big Ben finish 5-for-9 with 42 yards and the one touchdown.

Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers will likely embark upon negotiations this week to extend the QBs stay in Pittsburgh. Roethlisberger, who has two years remaining on his rookie contract believes things will go smoothly. "I'm eager, anxious, because I want to get it done with. I want to say let's go, let's get it over with so the talks can stop, people can stop bugging me about it. Because I just want to play football." After throwing for a career best 32 TD while only tossing 11 INT, Roethlisberger is fully recovered from his injury filled 2006 season and should be able to lead the Steelers for the foreseeable future as the face of the franchise. Ben Roethlisberger had one terrible half and one brilliant half in Saturday's playoff loss to Jacksonville. The opening 30 minutes saw three interceptions, two of them on terrible decisions, but Big Ben rallied and finished the night 29-for-42 passing, with 337 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
